This above is the biggest thistle I have seen in my life (photographed in a private garden) it was about the size of a hand.

The day after we went to Dorchester which is a nice small town with stunning houses and gardens and a lively shopping area.
There happened to be a French market on the day (first of three days). How did I worked that out?
I first bought some patisserie from a stall and the man was speaking only French, but since they were also selling crepes I was not too surprised.
Then I bought some ready made giant prawns with garlic and lemon (tasty!!!) and again the person spoke to me only in French...strange. Then some ham from a different stall, same thing... Finally I asked some directions in a different stall and again they could barely answer me...It is then that they told me it is one off event-a French market for three days!!!
here follow a few pictures taken in a local museum (Dorset something)

This above chair is extremely heavy and I don't think only two person could possibly lift it even empty!!! I don't believe this picture.

Brilliant photos, both of you :dbgrtmb:. you obviously had a good time :)

Miraflores, the Sedan Chair, or Palanquin, was used in most parts of the world for centuries. They were usually only carried by two men but the very ornate ones were carried by four men - or if they were going a long way. They were tough in those days - and new slaves were cheap!

The big thistle looks more like an artichoke to me

since you are more expert than me you may well be right

lolimac-the horses were fabulous and a lot of them of all sizes and coats colour. Unfortunately I didn't have fully chance to enjoy the shows because so many people were watching by the enclosure.

Nice one Mira, lovely to meet you again. Glad you had a good time. The French onion seller still comes up to Crewkerne once a year, and he really does have a bike, ropes of onions, a stripey t shirt and a berret:biggrin:

Really? Have you checked out his accent?

I nearly made it to the show myself, but was a bit pushed for time. Anyway, glad you both had a good time, and thanks for posting the pics:blue thumb: If I can wangle it, I'll be there next year:)

I have, it was outrageous:snork: He told me to go away or he would taunt me for a second time.

That'll be good Freddy, I was going to say what about the gardening show at Shepton Mallet, but Scrungee's going there:sad:;)

Yes please Freddy, you let us know! Although I am probably not going to talk about it much next time because it would be boring, but it is certainly an event that, money permitting, I would love to attend again. I also would like to go to Sandringham again, but for that one I need a loan...:snork:
