I'm not a huge pepper fan - Mrs C likes them, but even I was able to eat the green one raw and it was really tasty; I was questioning myself on whether it had been a worthwhile exercise growing them this year, but now I have no doubt that it was as they taste much better than shop bought. I think if the weather had been better, I might have had a more successful harvest.

Busy day today - scythed the long grass around the pond and OH gathered it all up into a heap and top cut round so now the mice and frogs have nowhere to go :cry3:. Might leave it a bit later next year but underneath was all flat and damp and thatchy. Found a HUGE elephant hawk moth larvae which I bunged in a patch of rosebay willow herb. Dug a trench out for some autumn planting tatties (no mean feat - we have heavy clay soil here ) . Not sure if they'll come to anything. I sort of did them in memory of my father-in-law who always bought the gone-over tatties in the shops- once they'd gone all sprouty - and shovelled them into trenches. Never done that before but - there's always a first time.

Yup to all of that. You will probably find that the colour ones are sweeter - trade-off is that they take another couple of weeks to ripen further to get from Green to "their ripe colour"

I bought some plants one year, didn't pay too much attention to the label ... waited patiently for them to go Red ... they didn't ... then they rotted ... in starting to make the moves to evict the plant I retrieved the original garden centre label buried next to the plants ... "Green Bell" ... well what do you know, eh? !!!

Been a busy day, and completely fruitless:

Replacement Blow-Away Cover, or a Greenhouse?

Going to settle down now with something alcoholic to lick my wounds, and perhaps spend a shed load of money that I don't really have.

I've started to clear the annuals that are just about finished and did the weeding at the same time. I've also taken cuttings and got those potted up.

Mowed the lawn again. Last mowed it Saturday at 40mm. Mowed today at 30mm.
Getting ready for scarifying in the next week or so.
Probably mow again Friday or Saturday down to 20mm
Looking a little dodgy at the moment but I know it will look better in a few months. :snork:
Good thing is that I don't have to rake it by hand now because a friend is lending me a electric lawn rake :dancy:
Did about 2m2 earlier by hand and the amount of thatch was unreal nearly filled a wheelie bin!
Oh and picked my first toms this year :snork:

Today I have dug up my old strawberry plants and discarded them and then replanted a larger area within the veg patch with some young plants from this years runners and some 1 year old plants from last year.

I have also put up my second arch that I got from Wilkos half price (pics to follow ).

We have a 3ft square planter on wheels. I grew some rather pathetic sweet peas in it - even gave them a nice black ornamental obelisk to climb up. All out today and replaced top half with fresh compost and some feed pellets then replanted it with loads of last year's mini daffs and squiill. . They were allowed to stay and plump up in May this year before storage in the back of the garage. They feel firm and heavy so if it works, will have saved me money. I will treat the planter to some F1 Winter flowering pansies at the weekend so we have some Autumn colour to view.

I sit by the garden/French door a lot FC in the dull Winter days when it's too naff to be out there.(Don't wanna be thinkin' about THAT just now) so I must have some welcoming colour to gaze at. I will take piccies, you know me - a piccie addict.....
