Goodbye lawn. Hello pond!

    Wish I had some suggestions on the arid bit Kindred but being a veg man all I can think of is Eringiums/sea hollies, thats only because you can eat the roots:DOH:

    I'm sure Pete would have some ideas.

    You don't do things by half Kindred! It looks very good. I like your idea, it's not my experience but I guess you need some tough alpines to cope with the harsh winter then very dry summer?

    We have two ponds also in the front garden, which was started only 18 months ago. I was originally going to put a rill between the two but then decided it would cost too much in electricity so we have a "combe" now!

    Most of the whole area has been laid with red sandstone flags from a farmer's old quarry, so, needless to say, there is no grass to be mown here either. Yippee!

      Got some iron panels made up locally.

      They have three spikes that you push into the ground. If there's an obstruction, you can always grind one off with a grinder. Then they are bolted together.

      I'm getting fonder and fonder of wrought iron. :)

        Detail of some of glazing put into pergola. The ends are rounded because that's what the Victorians did to make the water run off from the centre of the end of the glass, thus avoiding the wood.
