I have some weeds in my lawn that Verdone (which is what I have been using for some years) doesn't seem to have killed, and I thought I would try alternating with a different brand, ad I have chosen the one with the "most different ingredients" in the hope that that will have some impact no the weeds that Verdone is leaving behind. That is Resolva Lawn Weedkiller.

My problem is with the application rate. It says:

"Apply ... with a home garden sprayer or watering can (medium rose) at as does rate of 10 ml in 10 litres of water / 10sq.m

For optimum control use a garden sprayer"

I've never seen the same dilution rate recommended for both sprayer and watering can before, and it seems incredible improbable that they should be recommended at equal dilutions.

When I use a sprayer on the lawns I find that 10 litres of spray covers about 200 sq.m.

The Resolva comes in a 250ml pack, and says it covers 250 sq.m. - so do I just put 100ml in my 10 Litre sprayer, and make sure it covers 100 sq.m. (which is 10x the stated dose) ?

Hmmm........this is a difficult one Kristen. If it was me I'd err on the side of caution and try and get hold of the makers by phone or email before using it. Dosage with weedkiller can be dodgy.

Yes, good point. I've emailed them ... if they reply before Wednesday (spraying day) I *will* be impressed :)

I agree that it seems inconsistent with normal use for sprayer or can.

I'd be inclined to phone them. They're in Ireland, Westland Horticultural Ltd, 028 8772 7500

Two points of interest - which weeds is Verdone not killing as I've also been using that for ages and it kills all weeds I have (thankfully!)

Second, please let us know what they say!

I think the weed I am struggling with is called "self-heal". Purple flowers, dark coloured leaves, the locals call it something that sounds like "duke of bugle"

I had a reply to the email I sent late last night by 11am this morning, which is good service, but the content was:

"The dilution rate for Resolva Lawn is correct and has been carefully tested to ensure the best results, therefore we cannot recommend you alter the dilution rate."

To my mind this makes the product unuseable via a sprayer (notwithstanding that the instructions say that that is the preferred application method). Applying 1L of spray to 1 sq.m. of lawn will take all day, and most of it will run off (same as if a wateringcan with medium-rose was used).

I'll take it back and get something different.

A quick response from them Kristen, it makes a nice change. At least finding out about it before opening has given you the opportunity to take it back. :)

Indeed. Slightly surprised, and disappointed, though.

That's why I prefer to phone companies. By email you just get their official Health and Safety, Terms and Conditions etc line . When speaking to someone I can usually get them to, unofficially, answer the question properly.

Good plan! It's a very odd dilution rate. Your email probably fell into the 'too difficult' pile and the person couldn't be bothered checking properly.

I have self heal too, mostly I just let it get on with things! Once it spreads too far I pull a large clump up at a time. Otherwise I'd go crazy - it spreads a lot doesn't it!
