Dutch Iris bulbs being stolen

Hi all,
We have just planted Iris bulbs,crocuses,narcissi and tulips in a bed in the front garden. Something has dug up 5 Iris bulbs and the bulbs are gone.What animal would take bulbs ? there are footprints showing with what looks like 3 toes.

 

That will be the squirells . Little beggars!

 

Three toes? Might be an Ostrich.

 

Lol I might have noticed an Ostrich would be handy for eggs though.I have just looked at the prints again and it has five toes,two are very faint.

Mowgley could be squirrels if the prints are not from the culprit they are about the size of a large cat.I was thinking maybe a badger as one house down from us has had problems with a badger.

 

Could well be a Badger, they might not even be digging them up to eat. They used to rip my onions up just for a game of football

 

I have a major problem with squirrels here. I've resorted to putting a criss-cross of wire over recent bulb plantings as they can't stand something rubbing their back as they dig.

 

I've done that with several labourers.
