Hey, I purchased my first house in Feb this year and spent a lot of time sorting the inside out, and to be honest i have allowed the gardens to look a mess,

In my head I think a nice front lawn to replace the flags and the same in the back with decking coming from my house, I don't know the first thing about this stuff so will proabably get someone in, and looks like will have to be next year as i believe might be pushing to get a lawn down in september. I have attached some Pic's so any suggestions of what I could do to have a nice lawn or better idears, and even cost would be very nice.

    :ThankYou:

:sign0016:Elson, I sure you are going to get lots of ideas by joinging the gang. Looks as if you have got quite task infront of you. But it can be very rewarding starting a project from scratch and putting your own stamp on it. I suggest you first look through some of the threads here at some of the pics that others have posted of their garden - it may give you a few ideas before starting your own. Good luck!

First Hi and welcome to GC Elson.

Congratulations on your new house and now a blank canvas garden project.

Yes 1st would be to get rid of slabs.

At front of house do you get a lot of sun .

We dont and we got rid of our grass at front and put in shrubs and crushed plum slate and skye marble chips .

    And pots of plants.

Re shrubs nice to look in garden centres at different seasons to see what blooms .

You have a big job ahead of you but will be worth it.

You could get some of the back breaking work done in Autumn but to be ready to start in Spring

    Good luck

yes Am lucky the front and back get sun almost all day, I lift oneof the front flags up last week and this was under it. I have cleared all the grass/weeds from the front so is just flags and the soil boarder. and some kind of bush i think am looking at 30m2 at the front not sure on the back, have a better picture of the back just found on phone

I really am new to this and am thinking of just getting someone in as least i know job would be done right.

Our front we got it landscaped I have added a few changes,

The soil looks ok under the slabs mind you if slabs had been laid right would hav ehad sand and cement.

Get a few landscapers or at least more than 1 for prices and ideas.

Even if you only got the front done this year and worked together with back.

Rhodendrums are nice as is Daphne ,Enkianthus , Buddliea, lavendars heucheras many more .

Welcome to GC Elson. :) You still have time to lay lawn this year. You are limited by time if you want to use grass seed, it will struggle to germinate if at all under 52F. But you can turf anytime as long as there is no frost.

    Welcome.

If you make a lawn at the front, then you will have two gardens (front and back) to try to get in order at once. Not a bad thing if you don't mind that, but personally I'd go for a simple arrangement at the front, freeing up your time to do the back.

If it were me, I'd just mow the grass at the front around the paved area, clean up the paving (kill off and scrape out the weeds, and give the stones a good scrub with soapy water and stiff yard brush), dot some low maintenance shrubs in containers about, and add a bench to chill out on. The whole thing could be done in a few hours on a very low budget, and the ongoing maintenance would be limited to watering the containers and mowing the grass with decreasing frequency between now and next spring. Then you'll have saved loads of time and money to work on the back.

Or if you think you'll use the front garden more than the back, then do things the other way round. I.e. go for low maintenance/minimal effort in the lesser used garden so that you can divert your energy to the 'main' garden. Try to tackle too much at once and you'll just get tired and ground down. A bit at a time and you'll see rapid results and will be spurred on.
