Nice one al, I switch between cherry and menthol, all brilliant signs so far.

my worst ciggy of the day was the morning ones also, but even those are no longer an issue .

well 'chuffed' for you, keep up the brilliant work :dbgrtmb:

:wow: You are most definately an inspiration, al :dbgrtmb: I had you in my thoughts most of today because Day 3 is known to be a particular challenge and I was worried because you have had such a positive couple of days: seems I needn't have worried after all.

      Funtastic update!!! :hapfeet:

I'm glad you're doing well with it, but I feel I must throw in a word of caution.

In the first week or so, you might be tempted to come down off the baccy quite rapidly, as you feel on top of the world because your lungs are getting actual air for the first time in ages.

Take care though, because the cravings may turn up later with a vengeance.

As motivated as you are, and that's a great thing, it may be better to wean yourself off more slowly, as if you go too fast, and then something winds you up, you might need a lot of strength to maintain your resolve.

          Cheers guys!!! :ThankYou:

I've gone down on the mild ones because the regular seemed too strong, I used to smoke the lights anyway, so the regular were too much of a hit.

I did miss the cig this morn, but a few puffs on the e-cig put me right, and funny enough, missed one after dinner. I have the remnants of the last pack of Marlboro lights still on the side from the weekend as a reminder of what I used to do.

Thrown the cigarette stump pot away from outside, so there is no evidence of the past smoking me, except for the unfinished pack on the side in the kitchen. (my reason for this is that I dont need to finish them!)

In the past of stopping the 2nd and 3rd day were always the hardest, but with the 'leccy cig, it's definately made things a lot easier. I do intend to give these up as well, as I am definately not smoking the equivalent 30 a day as what I was, I reckon, adding the single puffs of the e cig, about 3 to 5 a day if that.

Pity you threw away the stumps pot from outside, al. One tip I read a few years back was, put the contents of your last ashtray in a jar and fill it with water: when you get an over powering urge to have "just one", open the jar and take a whiff. Admittedly, I didn't do that on my previous attempts, but definately plan to this turn around.

I really do think you are doing amazingly well! Mr Mum returned home from his shift today and brought me 100 cigs. My plan (as you know) is to give up with the Stoptober campaign, but, I can truly say, when he gave me that pack I thought: "Really?"

I've found a local shop which sells the E cigs ... your thread is calling me to that shop!

Mum, that's something that I wouldn't do, ever. Every time I look at the unfinished pack is spurring me on, as well as my boys and wife.
Why not buy an E-cig and try It anyway? Alternate that with your normal fags til oct, then go straight for the leccy cig.

It's a tip devised by someone that's never smoked I think. I know it doesn't work. One one of my previous attempts at quitting (a failed attempt), I once got so desperate that I went outside to where my outside ashtray was still full of bingies, that had been there a while and been rained on several times, and found the biggest bingey I could find. As it wouldn't light due to being soggy, I dried it as best I could over the cooker, and then tried to smoke it. It was horrible and did nothing to sort out my craving as probably all the nicotine had been washed out of it by the rain.

Best get rid of all the smell aspects of smoking when you quit, if only so that you don't try to smoke it if you've had a few too many cans one night.

Oh, and go easy on the beer. It makes it harder to resist temptation.

                  Beer? BEER!!!??? :thud:

What type of gal do you take me for? :heehee:

But, yes, the glass of wine with the evening meal will also be on the hit list and is a valid point. After all, I can smoke without a glass of wine, but, I can't have a glass of wine without a smoke

                  Good point, well presented :dbgrtmb:

Do you know, al, I am seriously considering *just* that!

One of the top tips which came from my Stoptober thread was the "mentality" of giving up: e.g. set a date, build up to it and acclimatise to it. I think the psychological aspect has an equal challenge vs the physical aspects.

Now, if I substitute the E-cig between now and Stoptober ....

.... my head is adjusting to that idea; very nicely indeed! Thank you :)

And because its important to keep ourselves focused, after Stoptober, why not go for Novembeard/Movember, or, as I did last year, a combination of the two Movembeard.

(Some of the ladies and younger men might struggle with that one)

Just reading over your progress and wanting to add another go you! To the discussion. Well done so far.

I quit almost eight years ago, and I think like you I was bored of it. That, and the vanity. It wasn't the cost, the health risks...no, it was bad skin that motivated me!

Once you decide that's it you are 80% there. I quit cold turkey, i wasn't too heavy a smoker (10 a day). The things that helped me were having pens, straws, anything to occupy my hands. Also I read that a craving physically only lasts two minutes. So every time I wanted one I just told myself I only has to hold out for two minutes. Eventually the gaps between the two minutes I needed to hold out got longer and longer. I think it depends on your outlook - I can't do deferral of desire (ie think about the logical benefits of not smoking) so I needed something to deal with the craving in the moment.

I have never touched a cigarette since because I don't trust myself, and to be honest it doesn't feel like me anymore. My dad can smoke a cigarette maybe a couple of times a year if he's having a drink. I have to quit completely!
