The red field poppies are Flanders poppies. I grew some of them this year plus another annual variety. I have pulled the Flanders out now without saving any seeds. To be honest I planted too much in that area and it looked terrible. I'll save some of the other poppy seeds for next year though.

I am absolutely gutted! My poppy was drying out nicely, and was all but ready to collect the seeds from........

I got home from work this afternoon, and my daughter had decided to rip it out of the flower bed and has shaken every last seed out of the heads - goodness only knows where in the garden they are, all I can hope is that I get lucky next year and another one pops up in the same border.

Needless to say, we aren't really on speaking terms at the moment. :gaah:

I shouldn't worry too much FC, you'll probably find you have a hundred come up in it's place next year. :)

Don't take it out on her, she was probably only trying to be helpfull.

Sadly not Zigs - 'helpful' is not an adjective that can be applied to my cherub at the moment; we're going through that destructive and partly vindictive stage in readiness for the full-blown teenage years.

No wonder I am going grey

My young grand-daughter has been going through the same thing if it's any consolation FC, she wrecks her bedroom every morning when she gets up amongst other things and she hasn't reached the 'terrible two's' yet! You have to tell yourself it's just a stage and she'll grow out of it. :heehee:

Hell of a long stage though Sheal - she will be nine in a matter of days (if she lives that long....:wallbanging:) - they all go through it I suppose, I just hope it ends soon.

I love reading all your "child observation" comments! I have to remind myself of my own childhood and I do remember being all of the things that I read in all your threads. I'm not criticising honest but I have to laugh at the way we tut tut at our childrens' exasperating habits. Come on FC, were you a parody of virtue from the day you were born and still are......?

You're right Jenny - over the years I have turned into my mother!

I wasn't a bad kid, but definitely a mischievous little blighter. I think the trouble we have as adults is that we have pretty much forgotten how our minds worked as a kid, and whenever we have dealings with other peoples kids (nieces, nephews etc), they always seem like little angels compared to our own. Of course, their mums and dads will almost certainly be saying the same.

The thing I did wrong in this particular case was that I caught her about to smack it with a tennis bat the other night, stopped her and explained that I wanted to save the seeds - and that she was not to touch it - - fatal really, tell a child not to do something, and that is the very thing they will go and do just to find out why they are not to do it.
