What's looking exotic in September 2012

Passiflora alata................





This is probably as good as this bloom will get with the cold nights that we have now.

Leonotis nepetifolia starting to bloom................



It will probably get clobbered by the frost before it gets going properly.

First flower spike emerging on one of my Albuca shawii..................



It's a bulbous plant so I reckon that seed to bloom in less than a year is pretty good!

 

LongK - I would agree its amazing to see a bulbous plant flower from seed in one year. I think my Allium christophii are now in about their 4th year from seed and still no sign of a flower.

I see one site saying its hardy to -18C (0F), but doesn't like wet. So how do you grow it?

 

That seems rather slow - is it?

They're in a shady spot in the corner of the greenhouse. They have been kept slightly on the dry side too.

Hi Sal, this is my falsicas muckulata. I love this. it doesnt need watering and fed or anything, just a quick dust now and again.. ....Thats as good as it gets im afriad

 

brilliant , I`m sure it`s a frost hardy , drought resistant and also sure that with the space it take , the money you have paid (don`t tell me that it`s a present)it could have been replaced witha real plant

Using a carpet of Delosperma Cooperii instead of gravel. Hope it'll eventually look OK.



I find that if you don't water these plants, they seem to do better. They're under a glazed pergola so they get no rain. HOW do they survive? I might give them a bit of water once a month. Maybe they survive on dew?
