Mr Mum "acquired" a large plastic square wotsit from a skip. It's been in the garden for ages and we topped it up now and again for the ducks.

This week, I'd had enough and asked Mr Mum could he please sink it in the ground for them! Together we worked at it and it was a right pain in the proverbial to get it "level" :wallbanging: Even after he had done his best, when I went to fill it, I put a few inches of water in to see where it would lay and then counterbalance that with a bit of wood, wiggling and jiggling.

Here's what we've ended up with (so far!)

The idea is that I will surround it with more plants to give them a haven in the copse end of the garden. (You can tell by the colour of the water that they have been in, loved it, loved in it and are grateful :heehee: )

I think it is a grat idea, although the sun rays will dry and crack it eventually, but by then you will have bought another one.

No need, there was two in the skip and the other is "holding" my "waiting-till-Mum-get's-on-with-it" plant purchases :heehee:

Looks great, but you know it will be trashed and covered in mud sooner rather than later? Have you thought about how you will empty it out, clean and refill it - easily that is? When it's raining, muddy and cold?

Yup, considered all of that :) If you look at the plants to the right of the ducking pond, they are, predominantly, water thriving plants. The tub can easily be manually scooped out of water with a bucket, with that waste water being deposited on those water hunger plants.

We have had any enormous amount of rain in the past 36hrs; the ducks think it is heaven, the garden is opening up its arms in ecstacy ... should the ducking pond require refreshment, it will be through a) disposing of old water onto plants; b) replenished with water butt rain water :) In the meantime, they have access to fresh water daily :)g

Equally, in that particular area of my garden (which we lovingly call the "copse" despite losing a willow and an elm this year :frown: ) I have planted fruit trees, which will be only too delighted with the fertilized "water" donated by the duckles wateringhole :dbgrtmb:
