    my 11y.o. daughter is doing a topic about Bees and she would like one big fantastic fact about bees that not many people know. She's got one about their eggs, one about their brains, one about how many species there are & a couple more I forgot :oopss:

    Can anyone :help::please:

      *A bee travels an average of 1600 round trips in order to produce one ounce of honey; up to 6 miles per trip. To produce 2 pounds of honey, bees travel a distance equal to 4 times around the earth.

            That it is the old queen which leaves the hive with the first swarm, and she generally goes before any of the new queens have hatched. Also it is the workers that decide what the hive does, not the queen.


            Bet her teacher doesn't know that :)

              Some bumble bees are like Cuckoos and lay their eggs in a another bumble bee colony (fact)

                If a bee gets stuck in a car & taken too far from its hive, it will go to another hive & ask to join.

                A bit like a certain GC member who forgot our name and went to another Gardening Forum:doh:
