Vetting shouldn't take that long as your past employers will normally send off references, asked for by your future employer, by return post or at least within a working week. The National Police Check again is usually done within a fortnight or less. I guess you know we're all behind you on your new job, Merelworld, and that we wish you the best!!:snork:

The agency have been in touch with an update. The vetting procedure is taking longer than normal at the moment because they are taking on a lot of site based staff. It's done by an external agency and normally completed within 2-3 weeks, but is taking much longer at the moment.

They were slightly concerned that I have started a new interim role as I'm now on a week's notice, but I pointed out that I have a mortgage and bills to pay and it's costing me money while I sit at home (and I still have no guarantee that there would be a job at the end of it), so I'm sure that another week won't make much difference. Hope not anyway!

Your reply, to my mind, perfectly summarises your situation Merle. Still sitting here with fingers and toes crossed,

I can't see that a week would make all that much difference to them Merle - they can't reasonably expect you to simply hang about doing nothing at their leisure.

Fingers crossed that they aren't mucking you about, and you get started soon.

The external agency will, by definition, take their time; this is *no* reflection on you. They can be as "concerned" as they like, that is just admin spele for probing deeper; you have supplied them with a full and frank answer!
Do the job to the best of your ability and do not be phased by the process.

Wishing you much luck and fortune, Merle xMx

You miss the point: it states - "it is possible ... " which of course the answer is yes, anything is "possible"; whether it is "probable" is a different question, and based on variable - which you allude to, but do not feature as a part of the text. In other words, it is *you* and not the question which is making assumptions and reading too deeply into the question (and based on your experiences).

I think many of these tests hinge on a person's understanding of the English language and all of its peculiarities!

You have to answer, based on the information you are given plus, understand the context of the question asked (which hinges on subtle differences in wording/understanding).

I answered that question with the same response as Clueless, and for the same reason.

Otherwise it would be equally valid to suggest (to potential employers) that yet to be discovered aliens from other worlds could also possibly perform tasks currently undertaken by qualified staff whilst they are on holiday.

(when anyone suggesting such nonsense should be dismissed as a treetreetree nutter IMO)

I've previously worked with 'short-sighted' (nothing to do with eyesight) individuals who would pass these tests withn flying colours, despite being complete idiots.

      :heehee: :roflol:

Yup, equally valid ... yet ... how "probable" would it be that an alien would bother to fill out a questionnaire??? :rolleyespink:

As probable as the MP actually meant his apology to the Policeman.:dunno:

Of course, having some knowledge of how these tests are devised and what they are meant to show about the candidate, it's possible (but not probable :heehee:) that they want you to get questions like that wrong. They may be looking for people that can use common sense as well as deduction.

I once worked with somebody who would've scored 100% every time. He had no common sense whatever, couldn't foresee problems before they occurred and was a nightmare to work with. But I wouldn't want to work with anybody who got 0% either.
