Try Bedfordshire Champions Freddy, not the biggest! "large onion" but big enough!
Seems to do better further south than Ailsa Craigs.

And please try a few Long Red Florence, easy to grow and a taste to die for, my favourite onion because of my passion for cooking !

      Hiya Vince.

I already have my seed for next year, Santero. I grew them this year because they are said to be resistant to Downy Mildew. This follows on from problems I had last year with this problem. So far this year, no Downy Mildew;):sofa:

Long Red Florence eh? Just looked those up. Are they much different from Shallots? I normally grow Shallots anyway. But, if you say they're worth it, I'll give 'em a go:blue thumb:

      Cheers...Freddy

:lunapic 130165696578242 5: at the comments!

Long Red Florence look like "torpedo" shallots but grow a good deal bigger and in my opinion taste a hell of a lot better.

I mistakenly thought they were torpedo shallots which is why I tried them, ignorance can be bliss, never bought a shallot since! :yay:

P.S. Bedfordshire Champions have a fantastic strong onion flavour, maybe try a few, the seed is cheaper than chips!

Ooops, got some Long Red Florence too, can send a few of those!

Thanks for that Vince. But, first thing I have to do is add Aluminium Sulphate to the ground, to lower the PH. My PH is at least 7.5, if not higher. I'll have to add the manure in the spring, composted stuff:blue thumb:
