In the meantime, Groves Garden Centre have a big box of Kelsae seeds in the corner of their seed display down at floor level.

I was around that way a short while ago, so whilst off topic around that way is it true that Les from West Bay Watersports has just died? I always enjoyed a chat with him about fishing up on the Somerset Coast, but haven't seen him in the shop for a while.

Oh God, I hadn't heard. Les was my mentor, taught me most of what I know about fishing:sad:

Used to spend ages with him in the shop, when it still had an ashtray & they didn't mind you having a beer in there too. We used to have a right laugh together.

Errrmmm ... Onions don't like Acid soil (i.e. liming recommended for Onions), and manuring should be as long before planting as possible, otherwise they'll be all growth and no fattening-up I reckon.

But I'm not an onion expert, so others may have different opinions?

That's weird, cos the booklet that comes with the test kit says that Onions like a PH of 6.0 - 7.0:dunno:

Ah ... probably just a mis-print - the other crops it talks about have the right pH do they?

P.S. Have you got a copy of Dr D.G. Hessayon "Vegetable and Herb Expert"? If not, and you only buy one Veg book, this is the one :)
