Not really a claim to fame, but had a practical joke played on me some years back by Sir Norman Wisdom, he scared the daylights out of me in the process and I gave him a good telling off.......with a smile on my face. :)

I spent three years working on the scenery for the Royal Tournament at Earls Court and loved every minute. Sadly I had to give it up as I was rearing my young family at the time and couldn't devote the long working hours needed.

I was on TV a couple of times when I was a Community Councillor - one of those was to save a rhino that had been placed on top of a bus shelter (I kid you not!), the other was to try and stop a building development on green space - needless to say, we failed miserably as the plans had already been approved, signed, sealed and delivered before we were even told.

And ten years ago, as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, I drove in the 'Services' Parade, up The Mall and past the Palace - mine is the golden double-decker with the Cadbury's Celebrations livery all over it.

I sold a Ford Capri GT4 to a member of the Real Thing pop group ( you to me are everything ..etc ). I was in an Indian restaurant in Birmingham and Bob Monkhouse was on the next table .Thats about it.
Pretty sad events after 61¾ years :snork:

I got a love note from Sofia Loren.

To Geoffrey - with Love from Sofia Loren.

When she was filming Lady L, she was living in the Manor house in our village & my Mother was working there.

The only problem is that I was too young to appreciate the interest:sick0026:

Looking at the celebrity nonsense that we now live in, I have always thought that keeping one's head below the parapet is a pretty reliable course of action.

Based on personal achievments I hold the British Record for the biggest Golden Orfe (a fish ) ever caught on rod and line; I've held the record for 12 years now..:)

I've also had several articles published in angling magazines and there's an angling book coming out next April that has a chapter written by myself

Celebrities, hmmmmm, anyone remember Bob Carolgeses with Spit the dog?, I used to be in the same trout fishing syndicate as him in Cheshire - nice guy. Also briefly met Ken Dodd and Prince Charles...

When Channel 4's big breakfast started up, I spent a couple of weeks wondering what show Gabby Roslin used to be on, till I realised i'd not seen her on telly, I used to drink with her in The Britannia in Guildford:doh:

My late mum and Princess Margret were friends. They were big smokers together.
Me? Rather fittingly I can trump the tune of the national anthem.

I once had my picture in the local paper when I dug up a live hand grenade whilst planting a hedge in a school field.
Is that a claim to fame?

This is very very sad, but I have found pictures of the Golden Jubilee buses via Google on a Showbus site - on the day, I was supposed to be taking the 'Surf' one (the one pictured the most on this site), but it decided to feel unwell and I ended up with the reserve which was the 'Sweetie' bus - (reg plate ends in SZT shown on the second page).

I'm no royalist, but it was one hell of an experience, and one that I will never forget - driving up The Mall with all those crowds cheering and waving, and then a wee wave from Her Maj & Philip was incredible.
