Have been to B&Q today and got enough stuff to make 3 raised beds. They will be about 6x3. They had decking boards for less than 2.50 so bought 9, some chunky bits to make corner posts, there should be leftover pieces from them for use in making more beds later, and some screws. Now I need to get hubby to cut and predrill it all so it can be taken up and assembled.

I have only just found this thread and I've enjoyed watching the development Catztail and the "jolly hockey sticks" encouragement from Mum too! And like Mum, who has recently practiced some :love30: on her OH for his assistance in building a heavenly TROUGH, I think you may have to find time to also become practised in the art thereof,
      Jenny ;)
It's all looking good by the way

Cheers Jenny! I'm learning as I go. Have informed hubby that we are doing the raised beds next Sun, all being well, and he didn't moan for once!! I need his help with certain bits but it's mainly my project. I'm hoping he will get a bit more interested as it comes along. I bet he doesnt mind eating the stuff though.

without scrolling back thru the entire thread, have we covered green manure crops for the winter? Probably last chance to get some mustard sown, what with it being october tomorrow.

Cheers me dears! It's only partially cleared. The rest isn't too bad though. I did think about some green manure but not sure I'm going to get around to it. I've got to get a shed now and get that in so I don't have to drag my tools back and forth. I'm also waiting for the committee to remove the junk pile as that's the spot the shed is going in. So I've got plenty to keep me busy at the moment. Another advantage is that all that has been planted there has been fruit so I don't have to worry about rotation. I need to get the boundary defined between me and the back too. It's very nice well drained soil and easy to dig so I'm chuffed.

As I posted earlier, I began with six, but ended up doubling them up to make 3. Here's a more recent picture.

Spent a couple of hours yesterday knocking back what weeds were left with the hoe. I'm now ready to put in my raised beds on Sat, all being well. They are going in the back bit next to the compost bin. I may also go to a reclamation yard and see if I can get some cheap and cheerful paving slabs for my shed base. Cheers guys! I can at the moment Steve, lol. Once I get things sorted though it's going to be a long wait. Hopefully doing some bits up there today. I've also managed to get some hols off my boss at the end of next week so I should be able to get the rest sorted.

The raised beds are in. Now I need to get them topped up. We put 80% of them together at home and finished them off up at the plot. I'm quite pleased with them and they fit the space pretty much perfectly. The guy in the pic is my neighbor. He's had LOADS more work to do on his bit than I did on mine.
