Autumn in our garden

It feels like we never really had a summer and now autumn is here :(

But despite the lack of any real heat this year the garden hasnt done too bad

we are particularly pleased with the cleopatra, the clone seems very good, and no virus!

The Aloe polyphilla has done very very well this last year or so, we are hoping for a flower next year - although it may still be a little young for that.

 

Gaz, how long do you keep the Begonia rex out for?

 

To be honest they will probably just be treated as bedding, rather than having to over winter. We prefer to only heat the greenhouses to a bare minimum to keep costs down, and with plenty of other plants coming into the house we want to keep some space to ourselves, so certain plants like those are just used for bedding.

 

I have some tropical Begonias that I have brought in already.

 

Well worth bringing in the tender plants you want to keep. We normally start moving things about later this month.

 

I have tons of stuff to bring in this year.
The Mrs is not going to be happy with me when she sees the spare room looking like a jungle.
She seems to be under the impression that I heat the greenhouse to temps along the lines of the Amazon. Couldn't be further from the truth - only to about 6*C which is fine for most of the cacti and succulents that I grow.

 

Do you insulate the greenhouse Sirius? We have heated to about 6C in the past but go for about 3C now

 

yup, I have bubble wrap up all year round.

Don't need it in summer, but it is too much of a pain to keep taking down, and then putting back up.
