Looks like mine set some seeds when I wasn't looking - they're all over the terrace now (plant is still in a pot) :(

More flowers looking as though they have set though - fingers crossed.

Is Salvia Hotlips fully hardy or half hardy?
I have three from jumbo plugs now about 2ft high I was thinking of lifting, them does anyone leave them in?

Borderline I would say. An option would be to take a pot of cuttings instead of lifting it (the plants might not be big enough yet though)

Had it at my old house and it was not only hardy last winter, but evergreen and in bud on April 15th when I moved out. Sited up against a west facing fence with the house two metres to the north of it.

I've got a few young 'hotlips' in pots taken as cuttings from a plant I saw in someone's garden last year (yes I did ask :heehee:), her plant is about 4ft x 4ft and more shrubby than perennial and its survived 3 winters so far. Its not in a particularly sheltered spot or anything, maybe she gets lucky??

It is very easy to strike cuttings from though, I've had 100% success with them and given some to friends and family :)

I have a real problem getting my Salvias into nice sized bushes. Maybe a bit exposed here? or not enough TLC perhaps?

Any advice would be welcome :)

Rarely seem to get large in my experience. The cultivar Gaunajuato (?) is supposed to be a strong grower, up to a metre tall apparently...............

Do you lift it for winter?
