Well, I decided to take the day off today and do an extra day on Thursday in Manchester, so I cut down the Paeonies and cleared out a few hidden weeds here and there. So at around 5pm I decided to have one last sit by the pond, with the obligatory mug of tea, and as I got to the pond gate there was a Hedgehog ambling along the path.:snork: He saw me and stopped, I saw him and stopped, and we stayed like that for what seemed an eternity!!! Because my mug of tea was going cold I stepped over him and watched him/her amble off down the path with me out of the way. Again, I really don't know how the Hedgehog got into the garden in the first place. You'd have to see and check my fences and gates to see what I mean because there are no gaps, holes etc in the fences, and the bottom of my gates are half an inch off the concrete. Anyway, he/she is obviously finding plenty of food and doing a good job for me so we're both happy.:heehee::coffee:

A sadly rare, but wonderful sight - to see a hedgehog in one's garden. Hope he returns (to sample a bit of cat food?) and grants you permission to take a photo or two Armandii,
      Jenny

I'm sure they climb. We have rabbit (chicken) wire all round the garden, and we get hedgehogs in the garden (sadly not enough though ... maybe its only the triathlon ones that bother to climb!_

It would have to get over a 8' fence, Kristen!!! and my external gates are solid wood and 7' high. I just can't work it out:scratch:

I think Jenny, the cats would just love me to leave dishes of cat food out....the Hedgehog wouldn't get a look in!!

Pole-vaulting hedgehogs instead of triathlon ones then, perhaps?!

Well, I'm going to be careful around the Compost Heap in case it decides to bed down there. There are a lot of logs around the pond which I placed there deliberately and that's another place I'll have to check on.:snork:

If you want hedgehogs in your garden you should see whether there is a hedgehog rescue charity near you. They may be happy to let you have one that has recovered.

"What Jobs Are We Doing in the Garden Today"

Digging. Its the Annual Boy's Toys hire of a decent sized shovel & barrow :)

Started with emptying the compost heap. Lovely stuff. Going to mix it with some muck and spread it on the trenches for some new hedges I want to plant.

                IMG_4646_JCB.jpg

Sorry, forgot to take a photo of the "barrow" - its a 3-tonner :)

                Jobs:
                • Dig new flower bed for Hydrangeas
                • Dig trenches for labyrinth hedges
                • I think I'll dig a trench around the vegetable patch for a Thuja hedge
                • "Barrow" a soil-manure mix round to fill the raised bed in the Jungle garden
                • "Barrow" some muck round to strategic heaps, so I can then barrow it onto the flower beds during the winter
                • Dig some planting holes for some trees - I want to plant some White cherries behind the Pink ones I planted year-before-last to make a double, staggered, row. Plus some holes for a few other "light canopy" trees in the new area of the garden I'm developing
                • Planting holes for some windbreak trees along the perimeter - should have planted them when we moved in 7 years ago, they'd be massive by now :(
                • Planting holes for the Apple Espalier walk (not sure I can get my "shovel" into that bit though :( )
                • Create a plant-standing area near the greenhouse.

I had an edge cutting but I gave it away. I just don't like vibrating or noisy tools in general...
