I don't know how the collect the seed, must be nursery grown I would say. Also isn't it illegal to collect seed/plants from the wild and sell on?

See water is quite strongly alkaline, so I would guess the chalky soil would be a plus point for a seaside plant. beyond that, I have no useful info to add I'm afraid.

I think that's only for plant species that are listed on schedule 8 in the wildlife and countryside act, if I remember right.

It was not a success. Sown on the 1st April most of the seed germinated by 1st May, but then it didn't grow beyond the seedling stage. It didn't seem to like my compost nor my watering like you said Ziggy. I used rain water with a couple of teaspoons of sea salt in a small watering can (the instructions said to avoid any salt that had 'caking agent'). Trouble was we had so much rain I think it just kept flushing my salt mixture away.

I will try again next year with a muddier compost and keep the rain off with a plastic sheet.

Hard luck, John, but sometimes things are more interesting when they are a challange :)

Lots of the Golden Samphire growing on the cliffs near us. I may attempt to harvest some of the seed, next time I pass by.

Sea asparagus , often in pasta where we previously lived.
