As far as I can gather, for as long as there's been children's toys, there's been children's stories featuring toys that come to life. Pinochio springs to mind, I think that's a very old tale. Then of course since TV was invented there's been Pob, Bagpuss, that Andy Pandy chap, Raggy Dolls, to name but a few.

Of course its all fantasy right? The workings of a vivid imagination aimed at entertaining kids?

If that's the case, then how come, quite regularly on an evening, long after our son has gone to bed and is fast asleep, I will jump out of my skin having heard a sudden unmistakable sound of something moving in his toy box? And how come, if its all fake, then long after we've put his toys away for the night, I'll nearly break my neck having tripped on a toy which is inexplicably right in the middle of the floor?

Other toys have had minds of their own too at times and come to life long after they've been put in the toy box for the night???

Not if you are alone in the house, you'll have to keep the Metal Halides on all night & that would upset the bean plant.

True story, years ago, I was once alone at home watching some back to back horror movies on warm summer night. As it was warm, several windows were open.

At one point in one of the movies, the scene featured a load of cats and vampires. I realised that all of our dogs had suddenly become quite agitated. They were pacing about and doing that quiet squeally howl that dogs sometimes do when they're not happy about something. I figured the strange sounds from the telly had set them off so I just carried on watching the film. A few more minutes passed and several scene changes happened so that the sounds from the box were no longer what I would expect to set a dog off, yet still they were not at ease, so I muted the telly. I opened the living room door and the dogs went running into the back room, where the window was open, clearly scared but on a war path. Realising it was night time, in the middle of a dodgy council estate, with ground floor windows open, the first thought that sprung to mind was that they'd heard an intruder. As I was quite handy as a youth, and enjoyed kung fu classes, I went charging in trying to get ahead of the dogs. There was no way I was leaving the dogs to fight any battles. Arms up in a fighting stance, poised to launch a flying kick as the need arose, I couldn't believe my eyes. There were two large windows in that room, both open, and both window ledges packed with cats.

some toys nowadays are voice activated (even if you don't know it). Or programmed to come up with unexpected sounds before they switch themselves off.
Also, inside the toybox it can happen that they switch themselves on because they are rubbing one against the other. In that case if the batteries are low you can hear some weird sounds.

As far as toys on the loose, it is a very popular occurrence also here...:snork:

Rumour has it that married ladies come to life when the menfolk go off to work.

Ooh err, there's turning each other on by rubbing against each other and then making strange sounds? No wonder the lad seems to have so many toys. I do sometimes wonder where they all come from.
