    At this time every year (and over the next couple of months) I start browsing seed catalogues and websites for seed to grow next year. I love growing things from seed as its fun and sometimes challenging, but cheaper than buying the plants, especially rarer and unusual varieties (some might not even be available as plants), plus you do get more satisfaction when you grow something from seed, well I do anyway :biggrin:

    So far this autumn I've got together the following seed to add to many others I have in cold storage;

    Clematis napaulensis
    Allowissadula holoseracea
    Lobelia gibberoa
    Lisianthus nigrescens
    Abutilon vitifolium
    Canna limbata
    Sambucus caerulea

    :dancy:

    ....and there's more to follow :heehee::)

      :) Hiya Michael

      I think I saw that you actually manage to purchase an Hibiscus 'Newbiscus' (ie, my Big Pink) this summer so guess you don't need any seed?

      Hi Victoria, I did buy a large flowered Hibiscus that looks very similar to 'newbiscus', not sure if its the same or not, personally I think there's a difference??, I know the one I had a few years ago had even larger flowers from memory, but maybe that's because there were fewer blooms??

      This is the one I bought this year, Hibiscus moscheutos guido;

      And this is 'newbiscus' from a few years ago;

      I would still like some seed of 'newbiscus' Victoria if you have any spare, if that doesn't sound too cheeky :heehee: as I'm convinced it has a larger flower :)

        Hiya Michael. I don't know if they are the same or not ... but they do look slightly different. Mine were 30cm across. Happy to do a swap. xx

          I'm ahead of you (uncharacteristic for me to be timely with anything ...). Just counted up the packets sitting on my home-office table waiting for "cataloguing" into sowing-order and what temp / conditions they want so I can batch them together.

          162 packets, not including vegetables, nor the Seed Swap Parcel that arrived today

          Its going to be a busy spring ...

              Lobelia gibberoa - you're mad!!!!

              When will you start yours off - I'm itching to get mine going! Trouble is, I've already got Lobelias bridgesii, excelsa and polyphylla germinating! Plus twenty odd tiny Tricyrtis lasiocarpa to care for.

              Yep, completely :lunapic 130165696578242 5:......germinate the seed first and then worry about where it's going :heehee:

              I'm thinking I may start them off soon if I can find somewhere with enough light to bring them over winter (the label does say start early in January anyway)...:biggrin:

                The Tricyrtis are so slow growing when small (they were sown mid July, yet are all under 8mm tall) but too special to risk the windowsill space if it gets arctic so I need to hold back a little.

                  Plants 492.jpg

                  I know a few of us GC members use Plant World Seeds but they really are a good company and can't recommend them enough, I took advantage of their buy 2 get 1 free offer on the same variety of seeds, hence I got 3 packets of the Canna Brisiliensis seed and I also got a surprise 'free' packet of Lavatera 'Silver Cup' to go with the other seed I ordered; Costus Speciosus - Happy Days :dancy::dbgrtmb:
