Musa tropicana

    Today my missus (yes the same person who told me to stop buying plants:)) bought me 3 bananas plants from the local market at £1 each
    called musa tropicana .
    Are they : red tiger , cavendish or what?

      Just googled it and it looks like a dwarf cavendish musa, but hey don't take my word for it!

      Tried to check, but I thought that your leaves are not stipey enough to be a
      Cavendish. You sure it's a musa, it looks like a Diffenbachia, (which is poisonous)But like Mowgley, I am no expert.:th scifD36:

        Deftnely not a Diffenbachia, It`s a banana musa ...not sure if it`s a cavendish or a super dwarf cavendish , ....they are hard to keep alive when young ....but managed ones.

        If they are def banana's, would you use the leaves to cook with? :dunno:

        Liliana , cavendish can actually produce edible banana but I doubt , I`ve made food parcel out of musa bajoo , more resisten . but didn`t really like the flavour .

        I think the leaves would be further apart (more pseudo stem in between) if Red Tiger. Red Tiger would have leaves with different proportions - longer/thiner - so I reckon Cavendish (in which case needs some warmth over Winter, I think??)

        They look the same as the one I have that I bought from Lidl earlier this year..

          Kristen i had a super dwarf , but lost last year , because I`ve tryed to overwinter in the greenhouse , but was alive untill February when we had the snow and I was away.

            Yes Kristen that one , I was in Thailand at time it was 36c over there , missed all the good fun in UK.

              Its a cavendish, not at all hardy, so will need to be inside over winter.
