What Jobs Are We Doing in the Garden Today... MK2..

Just potterered around out there today. Trimmed a large Hebe and Broom that was taking over the entrance to my drive. Cleared out some tomato plants and only two left now, fruit are still ripening, just. Moved some potted seeds to the greenhouse from indoors, hoping the cold will shock them into germinating. Checked on my Choisya cuttings, I think at least half have taken but will leave it a couple of weeks before I sneak up on them and check for roots.

 

reked up all the leaves ready for tommrows big Dig and dressing bricks from my cock up of my Arbour I Want to Try and Get the Shell up For Christmas Then get the roof and floor done in spring

 

It doesn't matter what it looks like Shiney as long as it serves the purpose. Go on, give us a peek please.

Today I got a few plants for the frost free portion of the driveway. There are trellises covered with Jasmines.. but I wanted some permanent evergreen, exotic bedding. So I went to Homebase, and picked up two Christmas Cactus for £1 each.. a Chlorophytum (spider plant), Solanum pseudocapsicum, Cuphea hyssopifolia and a few nice colourful pansies.

Over the last week's "digging" I've filled the new raised bed in the Exotic garden, dug a trench for a hedge around the vegetable patch and prepared the new Hydrangea Walk - plus piled up some muck on the grass path to put on as a mulch later



and dug the Maze:


I carefully mowed a pattern a month or so back, refined it, and got comfortable with it. Then I dug around the edges with the JCB where I wanted the hedges, and then decided the pattern was sufficiently intricate that the machinery wouldn't manoeuvre tightly enough and I was leaving too much that was going to have to be finished by hand ... so I got Pencil and Paper, measured all the carefully mown paths and transcribed them - I hope!! - to paper, and then dug them all up! so the whole area is now dug. It will probably be better in the long run as I want landscape-fabric and bark chipping for the paths, not turf, so I'll be able to just scoop out 6" or so of topsoil from the paths and pile that on the beds, whereas otherwise I would have been fighting the turf for years to come I reckon. We'll see, next year will tell!

 

Kristen I don't think I'd know where to start with all the planning you have. I'm glad for the 'patch' I have.

I'm a "detail" person. That's Good and Bad I suppose! but I can assemble and juggle lots of factors in my head; comes in handy when writing software as I often start on something A, realise that I need to do B and C next and whilst doing them they give rise to a requirement for D, E and F ... and so it goes on ... so I don't find this sort of thing particularly daunting, although I get frustrated if I have to redo anything, or worse have to run over the lawn twice with a track laying digger because I got some tasks in the wrong order :(

 

well I got a thermometer today to keep an eye on the 'side entrance border', to log temperatures for the plants health.

 

My Oleanders had a good trimming today and repositioned against the south facing wall of the conservatory. Maybe next year they may present us with some flowers. !

WHOOSH not a crutch in site and driven away in seconds

I had called the Fire Brigade prior to this, One 61 plate Range Rover in ashes

Having got rid of the crowd I then picked up the remaining 6 heucheras for £9

I was doing quite well I was second in the queue the old couple in front had gone through and cashed up only one PROBLEM the bill was £28 and they could only
muster £ 4.86p between them no cards, the old guy says one moment doddles
out to his car and comes back with another £3

All the other tills off whilst staff watched the fire,
Could not clear the till until it was paid, or cancelled by a supervisor (watching the fire)

Eventually paid and got home
Extended front border by 2mts x1mt 500 ltrs top soil, 100 lt Best HM
Planted two roses, two large heucheras from elsewhere, two primroses and a lavendura
Put the six new heucheras in the green house for another day
