Hiding a pond filter help plz

    I really thought after all my time on gc and the experience ive gained from you all that i could solve this problem myself... ive failed!
    I need ideas for possibly for an evergreen shrub to hide the pond pump which is approx placed at 1ft height,ive been looking for 12 months now :cry3: the last one i looked at was mahonia soft caress but i cant make a decision as i dont want to make the wrong choice then have to dig it up,any ideas welcome it doesnt have to be a shrub :)
    Heres a photo taken sometime this summer,the pump is under the slate at the top end of the mould waterfall feature,not a great pic sorry,the loofstrife at the back is contained & been moved so it that area i will be planting in.

    Hows about a Choisya or Fatsia....they can grow big but easily kept in check:dbgrtmb:

      Thanks lolimac..I thought about fatsia but i didnt know which one could be hardy enough? ive got a polycarpa in the gh but not sure how hardy that one is :dunno:

      Bilbo what soil have i got? armandii needs to know :heehee:

      no idea armandii sorry but its in full sun and your spinos are now planted to the left where you can see the brown plantpot :blue thumb: next to the greenhouse

        The choisya (aztec pearle) is nice it looks simialr to the mahonia soft caress :) x

          It's okay, I think I can see what kind it is, fairly light. How about something along the lines of a Grass?. I've used Bowles Golden [Carex elata] to cover part of the bank of the pond as it stays in a large clump during the Winter and doesn't die back. That one is probably not the one for you as it likes moist soil but there are plenty of tall grasses that would suit I'm sure.:snork: .

            Its moist this yr armandii :heehee: watering it isnt a prob,how tall does it get? Hiding next door privets would be an added bonus aswell :blue thumb: i did put a bamboo there but dug it out again..paranoid about next door being invaded :) i will take some more pics tomo x

            I like Armandii's suggestion. I have a couple of blue fescues around my water feature which are evergreen and hardly need any maintenance, they have seed heads for added interest at this time of year, and in the spring the foliage is intense blue.

              Ive just been googling it.. height 70 cm spread 50cm so im not sure that going to be tall enough ,i could build the ground up a bit thou il have a look in the morn,i reckon ive got enough space for all suggested up to now:)

              If it is moist there, Joolz, then Bowles Golden might be the answer as it will get to around easily 3' high, which would hide the pump but I don't think it would hide the Privet. But there are other grasses that would stay in a clump and grow higher.

              This is it in my pond. You can easily cut it back to keep it within bounds and you get dark brown seed heads during the Summer. Mine is over three feet high and is actually planted in a plastic crate in the margins.

                    Ive got crates & water so i reckon i could make it happy with a partial under liner:blue thumb: ,the iris to the right on the outside is in a big bucket so i just keep it topped up :) and a fatsia japonica planted behind,i only need a bit of space to trim the privets :)
