blurred action on sat 20 oct 2012 027.JPG According to Godess Delia:love30:, the Christmas Pudding mixture should be stirred by all members of the family, who should make a secret wish as they stir. It should then be left to blend overnight and steamed for 8 hours the next day. Enough here for 3 x one and a half pint bowls. Contains loadsa good stuff+ 4 tbs Rum and 2 tbs Grand Marnier.
You are my virtual family GC :grphg:
please have a stir with the virtual wooden spoon and make a wish,
    Jenny namaste

        Only 4 table spoons?

When my dad did us the honour of making the wedding cake for wife and me, he'd never actually done a wedding cake before but was well versed in christmas cakes and puddings which he considered to be almost the same thing.

A full bottle of rum was used just for rehydrating the dried fruit before it even went into the mix, and then, I'm told, rum was used in place of water when getting the dough to the correct consistency.

Best bit is, my dad is virtually T-Total, he has a few drinks to bring in the new year and that's it.

The quantity is more than Delia:love30: specified clueless. I do soak quite a lot of hooch in the fruit for the cake. I make a mean Brandy butter for the pud. on the day too.
These 3 are "orders" for friends,

                  Stirred and wish made
We are late this year, usually all the grand children make it then we all stir and make a wish
Absent friends are phoned and one of the kids stirs whilst they make the wish
Silver sixpences are still added wrapped in greaseproof paper

The recipe is 1890 from Buck Pal
Great Aunt is one step higher than Her Maj herself !

She is invited to ALL the SCOTTISH Royal visits and her Maj came to our/her house for tea once or thrice

Jack has to hide in the kitchen buttering scones and polishing the teapot

You are absolutely right of course Spruce. The alcohol is vapourised by the 8 hours in a bain-marie,
