 I am a great horse racing fan and today one of the greatest horses of our time attempts to win his fourteenth consecutive race at Ascot. The horse has a very special long striding action ,lets hope the very soft going today doesn't stop this great legend.
He is trained in Newmarket by Sir Henry Cecil the nicest and best loved person you could ever wish to meet, though fighting a very serious stumock cancer.
I wish Sir Henry and Frankel all the very best.

      Hi roders.

I normally have no interest whatsoever in horse racing, but I've heard about this horse. Very special by all accounts. It seems to me that it's a pity he hasn't gone abroad to race. I understand they have been a bit selective as to which races he's entered?:dunno:Anyway, quite an amazing record, not only to win, but to be so far ahead of the field. I'm gonna TRY to watch it, should be quite an occasion:)

Well, I watched the race, and I have to say, Frankel sure is something special! He had a bad start, and had to do a bit of catching up, but once he did, he made it look so easy. Apparently, the rest of the field was of top quality, which makes him even more remarkable. Great stuff:)

Sorry I'm no racing expert, but am I right in thinking this horse is only 4 yrs old?

How does he figure up against the likes of Red Rum and that grey one Desert Orchid.

          Hiya Pete.

I'm no expert either, but I kinda get the idea that Red Rum is as a donkey compared with Frankel. As far as I know, 'flat' racing is a cut above hurdles. Dunno about Desert Orchid, a 'flat' racer? Someone told me that two of the all-time greats were Brigadier Gerrard, and Shergar(spelling?), but he said that Frankel is probably the best horse ever, quite something:)

Desert Orchid was an English National Jump Race Horse Who won the King George V1 Chase at Kempton Park Racecourse Four times,a fantastic achievement which has never been achieved Before, or Since. It's a different Sport, Jump Racing and Flat Racing are a Different 'Kettle of fish' ,you Cannot compare one against the other.
As the old saying goes 'Horses For Courses'.
Could ' Frankel' Jump over fences for 3 miles ??. No.
Could ' Desert Orchid Win Over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs ??. No.
Would You Bet Frankel At Odds Of 1/6?. NO CHANCE;).

Just knock off a couple of noughts. People are always looking for the cheaper option. Don't settle for a Nag though. You'll end up with a headache:runforhills:

I hate to be the one to throw in a slight negative point, and I should point out I have no string feelings either way about horse racing, but...

When you breed horses to win races, that's exactly what you do. The English Thoroughbred (what a name for a breed of horse) is so selectively bred it is in effect a big wimp. On a relatively flat surface in good weather conditions, it can run fast as lightnining, but if a breeze dares to catch it a glancing blow, then poor soft horse is laid up with cholic (which to a horse is potentially fatal) or at least it becomes prone to muscle injury. If said horse takes anything more than a slight knock, then most likely the vet's treatment will be unpleasant and unfortunate to say the least.

It's the same plan Harry - just at a higher level.

You do all the work and the owner gets the profit!
It's just the Social Club has better fringe benefits for Frankel:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

 Horse racing (The sport of Kings) is a pretty elitist sport that turns over billions in various currencies all over the world, providing employment for millions, thousands in Newmarket alone.

In Newmarket they have just had the yearly, yearling sales and 70,000,000 guineas passed hands in a week, one unraced yearling called Hydrogen, alone made 2.5 million guineas ...............Recession, WHAT recession.

They will hope to put Frankel with some of the best mares in the world and breed another superior animal,it's not an exact science so only the very rich are able to take these risks.
Roll on Wednesday,I will be at Newmarket racing, watching and cosuming all who,s there, successes, failures, hard luck stories.................and looking for another Frankel.:dbgrtmb:
