Such a sophisticated word Jenny. :) Not sure about the second one though, it looks oriental may be, or double dutch! :heehee:

I extracted, fermented and dried the seeds from that tomato, then separated all the runts, misshapen, odd coloured, shrunken ones, etc. that I wouldn't normally keep (still got over a 100 'perfect' ones left) and sowed them to check if whether they would germinate.

Just had a look and plenty of them have germinated are now showing, proving you can successfully save seeds from tomatoes picked whilst still green if you get them to ripen off the plant. The plant was grown from seeds that came from a 3 lb+ tomato, so I was particularly anxious to save some.

Shame I'll have to chuck them out, but loads of perfect ones left and 2 other toms of the same variety that were left on the plant for longer (dual strategy) and are still ripening. I was previously led to believe they needed to start showing a blush of colour before picking for the seeds to be viable.

P.S. The only toms on the plot I still have cropping are my Koraliks which I covered with double layers of old sheets and net curtains when temps went below zero, they suffered badly, look dreadful, but are still producing toms and if the weather holds might hang on into November. The various mini bush toms in window boxes around the house are also still alive and producing.
