I know Cordyline leaves yellow to allow for new leaves, and also when the Cordyline is flowering, but mine isn't flowering. The bottom layer of leaves has suddenly gone yellow overnight.. I would have expected if they were dying due to normal processes they would have turned gradually?

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Normal green yes, no frost.. not entirely sure on age.. it has about 30cm of trunk and a fairly large head.

Sounds normal to me I have grown in the past two years ago before the two hard winters took them all out, one survived I thought !, it produced the biggest flower head in the summer and then died so the winter had killed it off in the end , needs full sun to get it to flower some only take a couple of years some take for ever I do like them to flower early as the following year this makes them branch out rather than just the one stem .
I woudnt worry you can just pull them off rather than cut , I have a purple one
( kept in the greenhouse over winter) in a pot every couple of years I take it out and cut the root ball in half with a saw re pot and its re roots all the way up the stem so I keep to a managable size, the piece thats left over I pot up and it send up new shoots so I end up with another plant

Thanks.. it was just so quick, the yellowing, literally overnight. I'll keep an eye and see what else happens.

I didn't know that they flowered!

I've got a couple in my garden, and if the place wasn't rented, they would be getting oiked out - don't really know why, I just don't like them.

yes the breeze is often very cold especially in the depths of winter, although in summer at the coast it can be pretty cold too.. not so bad here. Fortunately being near the coast we escape the frost, relative to the more inland areas of the country.

The lowest I've had recently is around 4-5C minimum, so pretty cold but no frost thankfully..

It's just normal ...cordylines like the heat, etc. they drop their leaves naturally. Their tendency is to form a trunk, become a tree, so lose their leaves.
