No need to freeze christmas cake. It doesn't go off for months and months.

The recipe has origins from a time when fruit and flower would be made into a cake to last through winter.

Same deal with wedding cake. Meant to ensure that newly weds, young and daft and incapable of fending for themselves, don't starve to death while they're learning the ropes.

The reason she looks so calm Loli is because she knows she hasn't got to do the clearing up after.

I've made 18 Christmas cakes this year (although in truth 12 of them are 'mini' cakes) - not one of them is for us, since we can't stand Christmas cake, but they're all safely stored in the smallest bedroom and I've been 'feeding' them periodically for about 3 weeks now. Despite being well wrapped, the sheer number of cakes is causing the room to take on a distinctly boozy smell, to the extent that the cat has abandoned it as her favourite place to snooze and the dog, who went in there to 'investigate' came out sneezing! I wonder ..... might I have overdone the brandy just a tad? :heehee:
