I've never grown heleniums but have moerheim beauty ....still in pot to plant out next spring. It's a difficult plant to position apparently owing to its coarse leaves and ungainly bearing. Who is growing heleniums and any ideas of associating them, maybe to hide their foliage but still to see the flowers?

I fell in love with this as a result of seeing it on a GC member's post a few months ago Verdun. I also bought one to go in next year - still in its pot! I have "Autumnale" which I love because it's attractive to bees. Didn't realise that M Beauty was a monster by comparison?

Hi verdun. I grow helenium 'sahins early riser' I grow it middle to back of the border. It divides very easily with each stem attached to a new bit of plant.

It's one of the first perrenial foliages to show in the spring and looks initially attractive. It's only when the foliage gets to about 50 cm tall that is starts to look a bit scruffy. I grow aster frankii monch in front of them. This is a excellent plant and well worth looking up.

Once you have a few heleniums through division, it's worth giving some of them the Chelsea chop. One day I will be able to post a picture of them on here.- if I can work it out!

Hiya tirednewdad99 I grow aster monch too. Wonderful plant still in full flower. I think that's exactly what I will do, viz., plant helenium behind the aster. Thanks. So it's not an invasive plant then?

    Hi verdun,

No it doesn't seem invasive at all. Good luck!
