Many thanks Penny. We have friends in Vancouver - I will try and Skype them to get their experience of the earthquake.
Oh, just remembered, their daughter works for the New York Times and is a resident there so they will have her to worry about.
Very bizarre weather globally this year is'nt it?

Darrans sister lives in connecticut,she emailed me back earlier to say the highways will be closed at 1pm today and they have to stay indoors
Fingers crossed that it doesnt cause to much damage for anyone x

The first time wife and I went to Cornwall for our hols, there was a hurricane on in America at the time.

On one day during our hol, glorious sunshine, sea like a mill pond, I thought the locals had gone mad. They were running around like headless chickens, tying boats up with far too many ropes and getting tarpaulins over them, while shop keepers and bar owners were loading sand bags outside the doors.

That evening, we went to the pub, and the conversation was dominated with predictions of impending doom. By this time it was spitting with rain outside and there enough of a breeze to make me have to flick my lighter a whole two times before I could light my smoke.

It got to the end of the night, and wife and I walked back to the digs. After a cup of tea I decided to have one last smoke before bed, on the balcony. I opened the sliding doors and was nearly launched across the room. The plastic table and chairs had gone. It took me some effort to get the doors shut again against the force of the wind.

The next morning, it was glorious sunshine, no breeze, and the sea was like a mill pond. Down in the harbour, several smaller boats had sunk, and great boulders and tree trunks were scattered all over the roads.

 

Why are hurricanes named after women huh? Can't men have a say in it?

Penny, hold on to your hat! Seriously though, I hope it all calms down before it gets to you, the members of GC and I will be thinking of you and please keep us posted if possible.

 

Has anyone here on GC any idea of the path Sandy is predicted to take please?
