Yesterday, I dug out a piece of the boundary lawn; the soil was so encrusted with weed roots that it had to be relocated. So, examined my dalek composter and there was plenty there to backfill the hole I'd excavated. But, it needed an edging and it was uneven ground. Inspired by a picture on Pinterest I'd seen some time back and harnessing some bottles that I had used/begged outside the glass recycling bin at the supermarket, I could finally put one of my project ideas into place ... this is the result (yes, I know; not perfectly measured .. but, I like it :dbgrtmb:

Maybe, next time, I'll remove the labels and make it more ... "pretty"; but, to be honest, the shrubs should cover most of it in time :noidea:

I just need to tap my neighbours shoulder when I see him next; he has a restaurant and I want to bag some of him empties to make another border edging but on a larger scale :heehee:

The labels will wash off in time.

Hi Mum , there was an episode of grand design , where they where building a wall out bottle and they where using a a bottle glass cutter , look how to cut a bottle and make a really nice wall out of it.

I think the slugs will nibble/rasp? off the labels before they get washed off by the rain !

            Cheers, Tony.

What about plastic bottles, filled with coloured water? Course, I have heard about someone building a little house (somewhere in Asia?)made with plastic bottles. :wow:

There was a programme about an Indian family :grphg: and they collected bottles and they had huge amounts which they sold on,by weight(craftily putting water into some bottles to add weight) then they cottoned to doing what the man they sold the bottles to- they bought a machine which ground the bottles in flakes. :blue thumb: It gave them a good income, and (bought on HP) they bought a van which meant they could do even more:dbgrtmb:.

I had a friend who fanatical about knitting, and used to knit using fibre made from plastic bottles, and for all a bottle must have cost to produce, was very expensive. :wow:

I'm not normally a health and safety kill joy but what concerns me is condensation collecting them freezing and breaking the bottles.

                    :loll:

Funny you should say that ... I do have about half a dozen, just not enough for a bed.

                    UPDATE!!!
After a waterlogged Autumn, a long snowy Winter, a few hard frosts, this was the state of play yesterday ....

                    CIMG0006.JPG

.... the bottles have survived really well :ccheers: (Note to self: get in there and sort out those grassy bits :nonofinger: )

Hadn't intended to have 2 forsythias in the same bed; knew one of them was, but the other only had a label "Hester Mix" and had no idea what that was :heehee: So, now I will centralise one of them and move the other (when they have finished flowering, of course).

Interestingly, I didn't plant the hyacinths in that formation, they were supposed to have lined the front edge. How on earth could they have moved :dunno:

Oh, the Mother of All Excuses! Mum, I love you

My favourite pastime number 1 is of course gardening, closely followed by number 2, reading gardening books while sipping nice wine. I was gently advised by Mr Selleri that I might want to concentrate more on pastime number one, just for health reasons... but this is perfect! I'm actually growing my bottle border raw material supply.

                        Rainy weekends, welcome :)
