Well I didn't have much luck. I created my Picon avatar ok then had a go at creating an album. When I clicked on Create own Album - it said 'Page Not Found' :wallbanging: and when I then tried View Own Album it said I don't have permission to create an album! :nonofinger: :help: I have gone to the Upload a File route. (Before/during/after garden makeover) - watch this space!! 1st view of garden.jpg DSC01486.JPG 26 New Garden.JPG

Ah .... I seem to remember that you need a certain number of posts before you can create an Album (although a more friendly & informative error message would have helped!)

I think your garden looks a picture :)

I love it, but I'm puzzled. There's a gate at the end of the garden, but next doors hedge appears to be immediately behind it.

Thanks very much Kristen. :spinning: It seemed to take forever but I am quite pleased with the result. My Runner Beans (at the back) were brilliant this year, only just fizzling out. Just planted some Spring bulbs in the borders, brought back from France and took out the 5' high Cosmos!. The bulbs were in pots last year as garden wasn't finished so I'm hoping they will be ok. :)

      Hi Clueless
The gate leads to a narrow footpath behind the houses - bound by an ivy covered wall. The road is on the other side of the wall then fields beyond that. :ThankYou:

Brilliant job you've done Lyn! It's a very pretty garden. That bench on the far left looks really interesting too!

:ThankYou: The seat came from a county Show. It's really heavy (complete piece of 'tree' - pretty sure it's Teak.) :)

Try to make the filesize of your pictures smaller. I reduce my pictures to maximum 800px wide and 600px tall (your picture will be reduced to those maximum anyway, after upload), and I reduce them to 70% "quality" which is a level at which I don't see any significant loss of quality. That reduces them from several megabytes down to about 100K and they upload in a few seconds as a consequence.

I do have a problem, now and again, where the upload won't work. Dunno why. I see a "spinner" top-right of screen (its not very obvious - its a set of moving "vertical bars" intended to show that the system is busy with something) but then nothing happens. However, if I get the "Choose a filename" opportunity things tend to proceed OK after that.

If you are uploading large files that is probably your problem; there is definitely a finite limit on this site for the filesize, and maybe you don't get a meaningful message if the file is bigger - but it would take you through the steps to upload - so depends whether you get that far, or don't even get to the "choose a file" stage

Some folk upload to other sites, and link to the pictures there, instead. Photobucket is probably the most popular. For me that makes the job into a 2-step process, so I prefer to just upload here direct.

Having said that, I also have a blog about my garden, and I do sometimes upload the pictures there instead - in case I want to use them on my blog too, and to reduce the amount of disk space that Nathan, our congenial host here!, has to pay for.

If you want advice on software to reduce the size of your images, on your PC, before you upload them just ask :) (but like everything here, "ask 2 people and you'll get 3 opinions" :)

          Hi Kristen
Thanks for the advice. I'm new to Blogs and all that kind of thing but keen to learn! I'm ok on reducing pics on my pc - it was just that nothing happened when I clicked on the Upload a File (on this page next to Post Reply) Once they are posted (ie my rather large pics!):oopss: can they be moved or 'shrunk'? Maybe I should have left them as Thumbnails?
          Offline until Sat eve now.
          :ThankYou:

personal preference, but I should leave them be, they are easier to see as you have done them ("full size"), rather than everyone having to click the thumbnail to see what its actually about :)

Max size that will display is 800px x 600px (they actually display slightly narrower than that, to suit the width of the site's styling, but you can click and image to see the full size version in-situ if they are actually 800px wide)

(If you want to display even-larger than that you will have to host them somewhere else and link to them)

What a beautiful small garden Lyn. Mine is about your size too. Every inch really has to earn the right to be planted up with a plant that is equally worthy of entry to your garden doesn't it?
thank you for showing us your pictures,
          Jenny
