Jenny I have just dug up, to overwinter, salvia cacalifolia and separated a well rooted plant of it. I can post it to you in a polythene bag....inside a jiffy bag, of course. Let me know ASAP if you want it or I will pot it.

Please bear in mind that the wonderful Salvia 'Amistad' is subject to Plant Breeder's Rights, therefore illegal to propagate for sale without a license to do so. Whole situation currently rather complicated. Hopefully to be resolved next year.

Nibor, I think plant breeders rights are to do with propogating for resale. If I wish to give a plant or part thereof to anyone, regardless of plants breeders rights, etc., I am legally allowed to do this. It is clear nobody in this discussion is intending to resell anything!

This is how I see it too Nibor. We are merely exchanging one plant for another.

Plant Breeders Rights intellectual property act specifically excludes "acts done privately and for non-commercial purposes"

Yes, you are correct.....I did say "for sale" in my message. Private and non-commercial is fine. Enjoy this wonderful Salvia which is still in flower in my garden. I left 6 plants outside last winter, 3 survived, so a mulch might be in order!

Thanks nibor. So how do you rate it amongst salvias? I do much same as you ....take some in and leave some outside.

I would rate it as the best new introduction for some years. Unlike Purple Majesty, for example, 'Amistad' flowers all summer long, and stays relatively compact. It is sterile so can only be propagated from cuttings.

      Nibor,
in my earlier post (#185) I said that my Dysons Crimson had produced seed. We have a seedswap parcel currently doing the rounds and GC members can add or take seeds from the parcel when it is their turn. I would love to include these in the parcel but first, please can you tell me whether they will be viable and whether they will come true to type?

They should be viable, but no guarantee that they will come true. However, some of the best cultivars occur from seeds like this!!!

Anyone noticed if there's a difference between salvia elegans pineapple and tangerine?

Well, they look very similar, but the foliage has a different scent. Both gorgeous, just wish these would flower earlier.
