because........, it has fuel from cars and other foreign bodies..

 

Well there is no lead in petrol now, apart from a few vintage cars, so what are we looking at thats so harmfull from combustion now?

As for foreign bodies, a few squirels & badgers would enrich the leafmold.

Its the unburnt hydrocarbons that are supposed to be the problem. However, as we all know, plants form a symbiotic relationship with soil borne micro-organisms that help to release nutrients from the soil for the plant, in return for sugar and starch from the plant. A fair few of these micro-organisms, associated with various specific plants, have been found to break down hydrocarbons into a form that the plant will just consume with no adverse affect whatsoever.

Oddly enough, as much as our government (and last government) bang on about us leading the way with 'green' and environmental stuff, and scientists have confirmed that certain plants mop up certain unpleasant chemicals, here in Britain it is hardly acknowledged. Some of the more skint countries on the other hand take advantage of these principles because they can't afford to do it any other way.

Last time I was on my hols in Greece, there was a reed and willow plantation with all sorts of wildlife living in it. The purpose of that plantation? Apparently septic tanks are emptied into it, the reed and willow quickly consume anything nasty, and when it all grows too big it is cut for fuel. It didn't smell, and nobody seemed to be ill in any way. The only time it smelled was for a few hours early morning twice a week when the lorry emptied its unpleasant contents into it.

Exactly Dave, nature provides a wonderfull recycling system that H&S is ignoring & sending far more stuff to landfill that would be better off being re used, whilst taxing us & making us feel guilty about the slightest thing we do that they tell us is bad for the environment.

 

I had to pay a carbon tax for the glass I used internally between the hallway and bathroom to let some light in, simply because it wasn't double glazing

 

There's so many fallen leaves in our street now I could bury my whole back garden probably 5ft deep in leaves.

I daren't go out and collect some though, because knowing the jobsworths in the council, they'd have me for theft while collecting them, and if I decide to then put them back to escape the theft charge, they'd have me for fly tipping instead.

So best just leave them there for them to clean up.

 

Put a hi viz jacket on & no one will bat an eyelid. I was wearing one on a job once when a woman came out and had a go at me about the road cones that no one had collected for months.

I said i'd deal with it straight away & put them all in the back of my car Saved a fortune in hire costs.
