Harry the Pretoria it`s a chimera and can`t be grown by seeds , if you buy Rhizome , you risk to buy an infected canna , but I did it so can`t say don`t do it , but just be aware of it.
In case you buy it , pot the Rhizome , don`t let it bone dry and store in the greenhouse .

Hi Harry , already have the bengal tiger and binned all the pretorian cannas (almost the same but different flower color) because of the virus.

I think today you can trust no one , as every seller can sell you a canna with virus...if you complaine they can always say that it was virus free before .

Chimeras are fushion of 2 cannas togheter , no idea how they make them , but they are only available through the rhizome .

Does anybody have any thoughts on those seeds?

It's just that I have a load of them in my online basket at T&M at the moment because there's overlapping deals where I can get them down to 70p for a pkt of 15 seeds (plus I'm not paying in 'real money'), but I need to order before midnight to get every discount http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/...rs-good-old-freebies.39667/page-3#post-611477

And before I order 200+ seeds, how long do Canna seeds remain viable for?

Scrungee , I saw a post on here from Banana Man and he easily germinated seeds over three years old . The T and M canna indica look great , there are lots on Ebay for approx £1.50 for 5 , so I would go for the T and M deal . You can always sell the surplus on Ebay if you dont want to risk storing them.

I would expect them to last several years, and my experience with Canna seed, in general, has been close to 100% germination ... so I doubt you would be needing anything like 200+ seeds, other than for "insurance" in case of mishap.

If you have a choice of other things I'd not go overboard on Canna seeds, I filled my Exotic garden this year from probably less than 50 (seeds sown)

Hello chums. Following the above posting, I have ordered some of these. One thing that concerns me is that they state that germination can take anything from two months to twelve months (or more). So, my question is, what should I do if they germinate at the start of next winter, for instance?

Hi Freddy , very simple go at the beginning of the thread and read all again , if you use the scarification system it usually germinate in 4 days .....if we will have a better sprng/summer they will flower in the first year.
even with the bad weather we had mine have still flowered .

Ah yes, BUT, this (scarification) is mentioned at the above link, and it STILL says that germination can take anything up to a year.....

So, I should ignore the advice given by the seed suppliers?

Every Canna seed I've sown that has germinated has been within a 4 week period, some only taking days using the scarification and soaking method :dbgrtmb:
