We had more last night, and so far none tonight - its early yet though. I fully expect that we will have to put up with them for the rest of this week as its Diwali at the weekend.

Aww, poor Smudge and Fred :( :( :(

Thankfully, fireworks never really bothered my cats; now we have Ozzy, that was a concern. But, seeing as he came from a shelter, he is wearing an "Adaptil" collar (with pheramones) which has kept him calm. Might be worth a thought for next year, doggy owners? Little on the pricey side though.

For cats (and I think it works for dogs too, but a different dose) there is a capsule called "Zylkene" which also acts to calm them. It is 53p a capsule and needs to be started at least 24hrs before a stressful even, but a cheaper option than the collar version or those plug in versions (which are only effective if the animal is in the same room). Can be added to their food, but is also disolvable.

At least with capsules they go into the animals system (no prescription required, but needs to be bought from the Vets receptionist) and with the collars (which can be bought in a pet shop) it is worn on the animal and is effective for 4 weeks.

Just glad I wasn't at the Edinburgh Fireworks Display this year! Ooh-err :ouch1:

He has taken to growling and barking at them now - then wanders around grumphing away (dog gets more like me every day!).

Thanks for the idea mum - I'll look them up :)

I can remember a time back in the late 70s early 80s when fireworks nearly faded out, we never saw many around here.
In recent years things have changed, the supermarkets now sell very expensive ones where as back in the old days it was just the local newsagent selling them.

It's now all or nothing, massive things at massive prices, nobody can claim a recession all the time millions are being spent on money going up in smoke.

Makes me feel like starting smoking again, at least that was relaxing.

We went to our local organised display.

Our neighbourhood, years ago, had a bit of a problem with criminal and antisocial behaviour. Imagine then as we waited for the show to start, and I noticed a car in the middle of the field. Two blokes were stood near it, and then they lit flares which they in turn used to manually light the fireworks. They did ok, but they kept walking back to the car to get stuff out. I couldn't resist the inevitable joke: "oh, it didn't take them long to revert to their old ways did it". (reference to the fact that at one time it was quite common for toe-rags to burn a car out in the middle of the field). Fortunately not too many people heard.
