Shena Hardin will have to hold up a sign saying "only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus" after she did just that.

Witnesses say she used to routinely drive on the pavement to avoid waiting for the school bus as it stopped to pick up and drop off children in Cleveland.

The incident was filmed by someone on the bus using a mobile phone.

Hardin will also lose her licence for 30 days and pay a $250 fine.

Well, she must be an idiot if she drives on pavements as far away as Canada just to get round buses up my my way. I usually just overtake if its safe, or just wait.

Waves back at Redstar's Avatar :wub2:

Redstar, I seem to remember that you have to stop and wait if a School Bus is stopped and loading/unloading kids?

Most of the Mum's (and Dad's) over here drive their kids to school and cause chaos, somehow the normal rules of parking and driving go out the window during the school rush, they park anywhere and don't consider for a moment other road users or pedestrians. I just don't understand their mentality, after all it's their own kids they are dropping off.

The catchment area for my son's school can only be about a mile across at the most, because the next nearest primary to us is just a few roads away. Yet there is a car park next to the school, it is always full at school start time (about 8:45AM).

They drive them to school because it's not safe for them to walk with all that traffic infront of the school.

Or maybe they're dropping them off before heading off to work themselves.Trying not to be late in the process.

No doubt that's the case for a few, but not the majority. Most jobs don't have start times that are convenient for dropping the kids off at school on the way, and in any case, many have to commute for half an hour or more to get to work, meaning they'd have to drop the kids off way before school start time and just leave them there in order to get to work on time.

I'm pretty sure most of them are just lazy. Grown-ups worked when I was little, so things haven't changed that much in that respect, yet I recall it was almost unheard of for a kid to get a lift into school. Only kids from the outlying villages arrived on the bus, and even then it was only if the weather wasn't ideal for them to come on their bikes.

Certainly the majority of Mums around me don't have to rush onto work because they leave their cars parked around till 9 or 9:30. When I used to walk my youngest to school we would pass a neighbour loading up his car with kids, they would pass us on the road and drop off at about the same time as we arrived outside school. It usually worked out that he was pulling up in his drive just as I walked back home

I live a few doors down from the village school. Since the mrs moved out i've been parking in the middle of my layby, to stop other people parking in my garden.

Looked out the other day, a mum had parked diagonally, half in my garden & half pointing out into the road:doh: There are no parking restrictions in the village, they could park anywhere they like. Why is my garden such a magnet to them?
