Good evening Merleworld and thank you but lets give credit where its due,if it wasn't for yourself and our other rose loving friends there wouldn't be much of a Rose forum just the forum title and few posts and it wouldn't be the success that it is with Messages:5,935 :) :ThankYou:

Well those statistics look healthy Woo. :dbgrtmb: I had been wandering in and out of the 'Rose' forum for months and there is something about roses that draw you in until you get the bug and investment follows. As you know I am waiting impatiently now for the delivery of my first nine roses, which should be iminent. I've not had roses for twenty years, so as time goes they are certainly overdue to make a beautiful and perfumed return to my 'patch'. :)

Thank you for all the advice you have given us here, it has been most welcome. :dbgrtmb:

          How very true.

I never used to be too much of a fan of roses, yet I found myself saving one even though I said I'd never have one in my garden.

"If a rose was known by any other name, would it not smell as sweet?". Mr Shakespeare obviously thought his fans would appreciate roses. If referring to fragrant flowers abundant in his day, why did he not refer to honeysuckle, or the flowers of the Hawthorn tree?

Why was the war of the roses not the war of, the dandelions?

There is clearly something special about roses.

Good morning Sheal and Clueless well I think that was something to do with Henry the Seventh and that the symbols of the counties, Lancashire and Yorkshire, are roses, Red for Lancashire and white for Yorkshire., and did you know that the rose is on our twenty pence piece:) [IMG]

I need to get a Paul's Scarlett for this garden.

I first bought one a number of years ago for my (then) garden; bought another when I married Mr Mum and planted it in *that* garden ... but somehow, I'm slow off the mark planting one here.

In Spring I plan to plant the little bit of garden under the sitting room window/next to the front door with some lavenders, hebes and I think that would be the perfect location for a Paul's Scarlett to climb up between the window and front door.
