My OH and I both have mobiles with ORANGE ( now EE ) and will be off to see Skyfall on Wednesday afternoon. Text FILM to 241 for the 2 for 1 offer. As OAP's :lunapic 130165696578242 5: they almost pay us to step inside. We will "share" one of our allocations with another couple who are picking us up in their car (12 mile journey) to the outskirts of Eastbourne.
Scrungee, I hope you are proud of me today,

Getting heleniums and veronicastrum plants in the post tomorrow. Well stocked now for next year with lots new plants to look forward to. I'm waiting for my local GC to sell their bulbs at knockdown prices very soon. Every year the manager denies it but he clears his stock to make room for Xmas stuff.......anyone nuts about helleborus orientalis?

3 x Canna Tropicanna Gold, 1 x Canna Tropicanna Yellow & 1 x Canna Pretoria in 2L pots all for only 25p each (reduced from £6.99 each), not much to see as now cut down for overwintering. I've had my eye on them for several weeks and was sure they'd be knocked right down when the Xmas trees arrived.

Brilliant Scrungee - that's my kind of price. You have encouraged me to go out and look for end of season bargains.

Homebase had something like 20% off Wolfgartenn tools earlier this year that overlapped with a 15% off day so I treated myself to the rake and (push/pull) hoe.

The design of the multi-cultivator has changed and I got one of the old style reduced to £1 rather than this silly price (and it had the short handle attached to it! - didn't think I'd get through the checkout with it at that price) http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wc...Id=1500001201&productId=432010&rel_cmp=693851

I bought my telescopic handle when on special offer at Wyvale for about £28 and it included an apple picker + a hook attachment (usefull for shaking down apples for pressing and removing cut branches).

Got the pruning saw attachment reduced at Homebase with about 33% off and it's amazing what can be cut down from great heights without taking a chainsaw up ladders which I always find rather scary.

These were good sized Ensete "maurelii" at B&Q, but hit by recent frost. They were originally £25 each - but reduced to £12.50. After a bit of negotiation I got them today for £2 each.

Many thanks to all you bargain hunters, who have inspired me to haggle.

Went in homebase yesterday looking for a bargain but found nothing! :cry3:
Only thing that caught my eye was a Chamaerops humilis dwarf fan palm which was nearly 4ft tall @ £13
Will it be hardy in the garden over winter? It says down to -10. Does anyone else have one?

Hardy for us down here. Homebase have 15% and 10% weekends don't they? Why not give them a ring to find out next one!

'Jamie Oliver' Hot Banana chillies reduced from £6.99 to 25p each. I only bought the one from the back as I suspected those at the front may have been suffering from being out during cold nights. Are these non F1 and worth saving seed from?

150 x Yew (hedge around veg patch)
100 x Thuja plicata (Hedge around Yew :) to give it some shelter)

100 x Hornbeam. Been lifting some that I planted 2 years ago in a really sandy area (ditch that the previous people appear to have filled with builders sand) and they have massive, deep, root systems and were really easy to transplant. I thought I'd grow some more there so that if I need a hedge in a year or two's time I can use my own decent, waist-high, transplants instead of paying through my nose for Big'Uns :)

5 x Great White Cherry - going to inter-plant them between the Purple leafed, pink flowering (Royal Burgundy), ones I planted 2 years ago. Splashed out and bought 8/10 Stds - "Ouch!" said wallet!

10 x Cob nuts. Going to plant these in the new Fruit and Nut garden (which my wife has named after my favourite food :) ), and then going to get another 10 of some more interesting / specialist interest varieties to interplant

3 or 4 different Dogwoods for some winter "Dags"
                  And a Tulip Tree :)
Didn't buy the Apple Trees yet as not quite ready with Espallier wires.
Hopefully Loli is bored with leaf-sweeping and would like to do some hedge-planting as a diversion :)
