Tiz the season for all your lovely recipes on this subject.

Let's see how many variations of these and other winter warmers are out there.

If you want add the sweet equivalent to finish the meal off with.

Haven't made a cobbler in years! Great reminder of a hearty Autumnal dish :dbgrtmb:

Made some dumplings for the slow cooker the other week and they were just not right :nonofinger: soggy mess really.

Last week I cooked them the way my mother used to: lid off casserole, pop dumplings in, return to oven: nicely brown crust on top and soft bottoms :)

Am I right in thinking its just like a big pie, but instead of a pastry casing, its just pie filling with a dumpling crust?

Reminds me of Tuesday's at my last job.

I have made a cobbler with circles cut out and arranged around the pie in a pretty design.:spinning:
My first late mother-in-law taught me how to make a 'Bacon Clanger' It is a suet rolypoly using bacon bits, lots of fried onions, a good hearty meal.

A cobbler is made by topping a sweet or a savoury dish with scones.

Sounds like mince and dumplings to me. That's not a bad thing, quite the opposite. Mince and dumplings day (tuesdays) was the only day of the week when I'd be in the canteen queue by 11:55AM, because the mince and dumplings would sell out 12:15 guaranteed. Sometimes, because I was a regularly, I'd give the nod to the dinner ladies, and then they'd save me some while I went out for a smoke. Those were the days:)

A school meals remember them well. Ask and yee shall get, always went back for seconds of what was available. Even if the lumpy custard was on offer.
As you walk to school the greeting of stewed cabbage greeted you as the playing fields got closer. Life was good then.
