      :snork:

A bloke I was mixing up for once said I was using the shovel like "A cow with a musket"

Recon that was a very old Dorset saying:biggrin:

My Dad used to say "You eat like a workhouseman"! He never did explain what he meant.

        Cheers, Tony.

          Like you are starving ;)

My mother was always saying things in riddles. :wallbanging:

~ Man can't put in what God left out
~ A blind man on a galloping donkey would see that!
          ~ "I want"s don't get and "can I have" is greedy.
~ Red sky at night, sheperds delight; red sky in morning, sheperds warning
~ Nowt as queer as folk
~ thinks he's King of the Middin (sp?)
~ a man can always put his hat on
~ I see no ships; only hardships

You've started me off now :heehee:

A few of my dad's occasional gems of wisdom.

Of someone who he thought was exaggerating or simply making stuff up: "Yeah right, I've heard ducks fart in church before."

To describe something which had a particularly sour or sharp taste: "That'll make yer draw yer a**e to yer elbows."

On the subject of young lads 'courting' and the lengths they will go to in pursuit of a young lady: "Ah, that'll draw yer further than gunpowder'll blow yer."

Some nuggets of wisdom my dad gave me just before I became a dad myself:

Reward good behaviour at least as much as you punish bad. You can't learn right from wrong without both.

Don't be too strict, and remember that you were a kid yourself once.

Its easier to beat the devil into a child than it is to beat the devil out.

Where 'ere you be - let the wind blow free
In church or chapel - let it rattle

My parents started out life living in London, so there were a few gems that have been passed down.

If we came in dirty as children.......You're as black as Newgates Knocker.
Or.......A little bit of dirt won't hurt!

If the wind changes, you'll stay like that.
Night, night, don't let the bed bugs bite.
If you don't stop crying, I'll give you something to cry about!
As happy as a pig in...........

@ mowgley, it was "Dark over Will's mother's" around here.

@ Sheal, wasn't Newgate's Knocker something to do with execution?:yikes:

My father never used bad language in front of us or Mum so he would say

He couldn't organize a bun fight in a tea shop

A local farmer wasn't quite so polite and he used to say

One boy is worth half a man
Two boys are worth half a boy
And three boys are no bl**dy good at all

If you pick your nose your eyes will cave in!

The biggest mistake you can make is to believe you work for someone else.

There is never a wrong time to do the right thing.

I could go on all day posting sayings :heehee:

Happiness is a direction, not a destination.

If you were arrested for being kind, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

Wow! These are getting a bit deep, aren't they? :heehee:
