Had this 2 years ago on a Yoga retreat holiday(Hazur Vadisi :dbgrtmb: )in the hills at the back of Gokek ,Turkey.Took home their recipe. Got some of these yummy Turkish Lentils in a spice shop in Southsea yesterday. They are plumper and more deeply coloured and so full of flavour. I shall add a level teaspoonful of that Paprika pepper in with the spices: Turkish Lentil Soup 002.JPG

Thanks Jenny, I know what I'm doing this weekend - 'making soup' sounds great.

I love lentil soup and this one sounds particularly good. Economical as well.

For fans of Turkish food (and what sane person isn't?) it's good to note the proliferation of Turkish supermarkets selling a huge range of good stuff.

How was the yoga retreat, Jenny? I really fancy going to India to do a yoga retreat.

Made the soup this afternoon (twice). My daughter came round (she's vegetarian) just after I had finished - tasted it and said 'Mum that's great please can I have it for tonight'. She's having an open evening for the neighbours and said it would compliment the other food she had prepared. I had doubled the quantity as I was making it for freezing. After she had gone I had to make another batch.
So thanks for the recipe Jenny it was a great success.

For anyone that's not sure about it, it's a really good soup. :dbgrtmb:

I don't bother to liquidise mine as the lentils cook well, soften quickly and give it a nice texture. For effect, just before serving I float a slice of lemon on the surface (it won't sink) and then sprinkle the coriander on top. For people that like the lemon flavour they can then push the slice into the soup and squash it with their spoon.

To ring the changes, you can also add a teaspoon of curry powder or half a teaspoon of curry paste. You can use this version to serve as a starter before curry. It's then best to leave out the apricots and add a little turmeric. You then have a nice muligatawny soup.
