Weather forecasting

    I hate to say it, but just under two weeks ago it seems I guessed the local weather absolutely bang on.

    I'd decided by about the tuesday that last saturday was the day to get up the land to do my willow coppicing. It had to be the saturday, because the sunday onwards would be too wet to work, and by the following weekend (this weekend) the ground would be too hard following a freezing spell lasting about a week.

    That's exactly how things turned out.

    There was no logic to my reasoning. I haven't looked at the proper weather forecast for months now (no point, it always says rain). I just got a strong sense that if it wasn't done by last saturday, I'd miss the chance for several weeks.

    There are loads of poems and short sayings and bits of folklore and superstition, and even hints of science when it comes to weather forecasting. I'm wondering what rituals we all have here for deciding when to do certain types of job.
