Email Christmas Cards - yes or no?

I am hearing quite a lot about the ultimate cost of sending out cards this Christmas. I am tempted to resort to email cards for some "not so special" recipients. Right or wrong, what do you think,

ps - I do get a bit miffed by being required to act as an "unpaid postman" too.
My Christmas spirit is somewhat limited I must confess....

 

Each day I get about 20 emails sent to my junk-mail folder, with 1 or 2 always being ones which aren't meant for there, so you have to bear that in mind!

But I've only sent cards out to immediate family for the past so many years, I don't think people give them out as much as 10 years ago (but I was at school so maybe that's why)

 

Its difficult FC. As you get older your card list expands and it becomes a habit that's difficult to break. I think the olduns' like to put them up on the mantel piece so I can't delete them from the Christmas Card list.

 

I usually send a text. I have an App that automatically sends xmas and birthday greetings to everyone in my contacts. Hence I never forget.
It's the thought that counts.

I'm not so keen on Christmas now my family have grown but still like to get a card and I enjoy making mine for the "special ones" - I don't think a text or email card is the same

 

The closest we've ever been to a situation where its right to send 'e-cards' was maybe in the early 1990s when the technology was emerging, but people were still trying to find uses for it.

I just text people to wish them happy christmas, and when I get a chance I phone them too.

 

Some years ago when I decided to abandon christmas, I sent my cards out stating I wouldn't be sending any from the following year and would make a donation to charity instead. It also saves trees, I wonder how many are used to supply the world with christmas cards?

 

From what i've read, people seem to like being sacked/dumped by text and email, so a virtual Christmas card would be in keeping with that sense of distancing yourself from the situation.

 

I got dumped by ansaphone message once, it was a really memorable experience.

I am not keen on Xmas cards, these are the groups who will get one:

Elderly friends/ rellies who like that sort of thing
Close family members who I won't see at Christmas (even though they don't return the favour)
Friends who I don't see very often but still want to keep in touch with who I don't feel I can phone - for some reason or other.
My class at school
People who have already given me one and I feel it requires the courtesy of reciprocation - for some reason or other.

These are the groups who won't get one:

Colleagues - except for a communal one.
People I'm going to see socially at some point over the festivities and can greet personally.
Friends who I haven't seen this year that deserve a phone call instead - I wish they'd call me instead of sending a flimmin' useless card. So i'll have to call them.
People who have kindly, but mindlessly, written me a card when I didn't expect it, as they write one to every single person with whom they are even casually acquainted, thereby wrong-footing me.

So, I'm estimating i will need 50 cards, absolute max, about 10 will need posting.

BTW, no e-cards. Naff, my dear.

 

Personally I like a card which has been written to me personally and properly addressed. I hate cards that just say from x and x inside and have a mail merged label on them. If people think so little of me that they can't spare one minute to think of me then I would rather they didn't bother at all.

For all of those of you who don't get a card off me, its just that i'm not very together sometimes

 

Maybe I'm just getting old :(. Emailed cards always worry me cos I'm scared of viruses, and I hate people including my email on a message which cc's other people who I don't know and wouldn't want to give my email to. I do like getting cards, especially when they have a message inside, however I do find it slightly odd that I have just sent a card by airmail to Switzerland for not much more than a first class uk stamp
