Do slugs die in the cold weather

Seen this the other day, a nice juice slug which was frozen to a wall, then when it warm up a bit it was off for a slide around leaving behind it's ice hotel

I've always assumed the big ones die off in winter, as you don't see them big enough to scare Togs in the spring.

 

If freezing temperatures dont kill them some off I bet there will be more than ever next yr after the wet summer we had

I seem to remember reading once that they hibernate. They all huddle together under rocks or anywhere there is shelter, and then they blow horrid bubbles which then crust over so they are completely sealed into their shells.

Of course I'd still fully expect the majority to die during the winter, which I think is what happens, but some will survive. Enough to ensure that all your plants get munched next spring anyway.

 

I think they might,i lifted one my scaffolding boards up last month and there was a bunch snuggled up

i find snails hide behind containers etc. and also behind the trellis that supports the Honeysuckle and other climbers.
They seem to survive the winter OK.
