I`ve recently come across a tradescantia pallida variegata pink
I`ve seen it time ago in a garden center at a price of £20 for a big plant ,
but recently I`ve found some unrooted cutting on the net for £8 (including p&p)

is it really so rare? will it wortgh buy one?

I didn't think they were uncommon. Probably more uncommon is my Tradescantia x andersoniana) 'Blushing Bride' in the trough behind the Bilbergia ...

It`s much more easy to get the blushing bride on internet and way more cheap then the pallida variegata .

apparently it`s really rare , but how rare and will it worth £8 for a cutting?

Sal, I'm sure back in the 60s my Gran used to grow this kind of thing, is it "wandering jew"?
They used to grow it from cuttings rooted in egg cups full of water.
      Never saw the attraction myself.:)

If you really want it and can't find another source then it's probably worth eight quid.

From a personal point of view I'm with Pete and rather dislike this . I much prefer the proper T.pallida to this variegated form. That said, I dislike virtually all variegated plants - they just look ill to me:dunno:

I hate to say it but I don't like this one either. They have a habit of reverting back as many variegated plants do.
Back in the 60/70's it was also known as T. Purpurea not Pallida, not sure why it was changed.

last summer I`ve noticed that the tradescantia purpurea o pallida was growing back from roots , I would really like more color in my garden this year , but 8 quid for a cutting ....it must be a rare plant .

I`ve recently manage some good bargain on ebay but really don`t want to mess up with this one , as I can`t find any other seller .

It sounds as if you like it (ignore my dislike, I'm a notorious miserable sod) so go for it. As you know, they strike with a 100% success rate.

I wish that two of my favourite flowering plants would revert! I tolerate the variegation on them because their blooms are so special.

I agree!! £8 is quite cheap really, and I would buy it if I wanted it.

The Alstro came from a WI sale. In a couple of years I'll be able to dig it up and share, but I only have the single clump now as I shared my clump out when I moved.

The Iris japonica was from a local nursery cheap as they couldn't justify its temperamental attitude to flowering - it likes warm springs, but dislikes it if the temperature drops significantly after this warmth (the buds will blast or even not appear). The flower buds are also much loved by slugs! I have some divisions of this in the cold frame if you remind me in the spring.

              Both are fully hardy.
