Wow , I was just thinking of spending my holiday in the beach house and then pop in the garden Nursery around the corner ,not to say that the botanical garden is not far as well or climbing the south alps to get few plants .

    South Alps then :dbgrtmb:

Amulree have had a 50% off sale which starts late Autumn. I have driven up there on the first day of the sale the last two years, to be first in line :), and filled the car with bargains. I pretty much have all the things I want now (in particular a number of Bamboo varieties which Simon has lots of), short of wanting to try some more specialist varieties.

So I reckon there is a fair chance that Simon will have a Late Autumn Sale in future years too if you want to put a reminder in your diary :)

I've been toying with the idea of buying a witch hazel for a couple of months now. I may take the plunge but I still am procrastinating on it.

I've got a long list of plants I would like to buy but don't think they will do well where I want to put them in the "death patch"

I think they prefer an acid soil? I've got one (alkaline soil here) and it isn't exactly "Wow"

Hiya jungle Jayne, I grow Hamamellis Mollis and just like you, wanted one for years. My soil is neutral. The scent from this witch hazel is amazing ..soon to occur.....and the yellow flowers are fascinating. The scent drifts and wafts on the air. They dont look much through most of the year though so maybe plant something in the summer in front of it. Scented winter plants are worth growing. I grow a few such plants
