Hi all, first post here as I have a problem knowing what plant to pick and not particularly experienced a gardener!

I want to put 2 of the same plants on either side of my east facing front doorway in large planters as the ground is stonechipped. It's semi exposed but does get fairly windy in my location. I want them tall and thin to draw the eye upwards (at least 3ft-5ft when planted)

So far i've though of pyramid box (prohibitely expensive for this size) and golden elm as it's nice and cheap. The other idea I had was a trellis with honeysuckle or clematis but I would prefer evergreen or erring on the more dense in nature.

    many thanks,

    Marco.

You can get evergreen/semievergreen honeysuckle which might do, and its always nice to have something scented by the door. Halliana is a good one.

Or how about getting one of the dreaded "leylandii" and trimming it into a spiral/swirl.

How about Taxus (Yew), but if you have young children it's not a good idea as they are poisonous. They are evergreen. :)

I'm in the same boat. I'm not normally a fan of conifers, but there is a lemon scented compact one that might fit the bill.

    Here's what I mean:

Note: I'm not endorsing that company, just because I've never used them so don't know if they're any good or not. I just gave that link to show what I mean.

    Something like these conifers, maybe?

They would be neat, tidy and attractive all year round, which honeysuckly Halliana wouldn't be (though lovely in Spring).

Leylandii would be cheap but not sure how you could keep them small enough even with regular trimming from a young age.

The company or the tree? I'm thinking of getting a couple of those trees, but unlikely from this company, more likely just from the local nursery, but probably not if you meant the tree species is one never to use again.

Sorry clueless the "Company" I would not touch with a a bargepole customer care is the worse ever and packing of plants I would give them 1 out of a 100 and I did give them the benefit by placing another order but the same happened with that.

The tree/shrub is fine my mum has two , tougher than they look , but slow growing.
